Quick question. I'm getting TiVo, now I have a HDTV which is hooked up to Time Warner digital cable, can the 2 of them work together? The sales person was telling me that TiVo won't record digital programing over some kind of copyright issue, but he didn't know how it works involving Time Warner digital cable, and I can't reach anyone in customer service at the cable company (Its AOL Time Warner, what do you expect?).
Does any freeper out there have HDTV, use Time Warner digital cable, and have TiVo? Do they work together with no problems?
I appreciate any and all help.

Not sure what the HDTV ramifications are, but where I live, the company formerly known as Time Warner--Bright House--has just begun offering a digital cable box that includes a DVR.
It's exactly like the combo satellite reciever/tivo boxes, except it's digital cable rather than satellite.
Hope this helps.

Get you a PC and an ATI All in Wonder Card!!!!
I am pretty sure it will handle HDTV!
You will have nearly everything a TIVO does and you can have more capacity!

Na, Tivo records digital programming just fine (Directv is digital).
The problem is the extra bandwidth of HDTV requires a faster box and the HDTV/Tivo box won't be out until late '03 or '04.

Really? I had no idea that TIVO is going to support HDTV. Hmm. I got a replaytv for a year now, and I love it.

I dunno what your talking about. I have a TiVo (Love it) and HDTV and if I wathch HDTV channels I have to turn Tivo off because it cant handle those signals even a little bit. If its on I just get a black screen.
To: Sonny M
Tivo wont work with HDTV they are not up with the 19.2QAM signal that HDTV requires but TWC has a DVR for HDTV that will do all that the Tivo box will. Check with your local office and they should help you out.

Since HDTV is digital, isn't this just a simple matter of recording the already digital, already compressed stream and saving it to a hard disk?
I believe this is what the HDTV tuner cards available for the PC do.

Are there any good ones for under $50? Under $100?
I'm too lazy to check Pricewatch.com right now. :)

Over-the-air HDTV is 8VSB and it is standardized.
Digital cable (HDTV and regular TV) uses QAM, but I did not think there was anything resembling a standard for it (as in there are NO tuners available for your PC that will allow you to record the HDTV signal off of the cable TV).
If there is a tuner for the PC that will work with HDTV from cable TV, I'd like to know about it.

I think 200 is low end.
The top end that does Gaming and TV functions is 400 +.

I know the new Radeon 9800 All in Wonder is about $450, I was just wondering if you knew of any cheapo ones off the top of your head.
Thanks.
