If you will, please remember this tiny baby in your prayers. Hes the grandson of a very dear friend of mine. Logan was born on July 25. His due date was in October, making his mommy 26 weeks along, being born 3 months and 3 days early.
Logan was 1 lb 9.4 oz when he was born and is now weighing, as of this morning, 1 lb. 8.3 oz. The little guy is now 12-1/2 long.
Hes a real trooper and is fighting with all his little body can fight with. His Grandma said that hes starting to recognize his mommy when she comes in the room and hears her voice. She said he tries so hard to open his eyes, and starts kicking his feet.
I asked my friend if there were any specific prayers, other than the obvious and this is her reply A prayer of thanks for the miracle called "Logan.
On a personal note, Ive read the emails daily from my friend. Ive known her for years, Ive heard her talking about her family for years but Ive got to tell you that Im SO impressed with how her children have all banded together in support. What an incredibly wonderful and loving family.
Father God, we lift up Logans little body to you. We pray that you can strengthen him hourly, daily, weekly, until hes grown enough to go home with his precious family. We ask for guidance for the doctors and nurses who are caring for him. We ask for strength for his parents and extended family. Thank you so much for the gift of life. In Jesus Name, Amen
Fellow Freepers .I bring you Logan!!!
btw...I like the name 'piglet' better than 'termite' but I still refuse to call him either name. hmpfh.
Good morning to all....
The Texas Termite is doing great! He had his eye exam last evening, and the doctors told Beth that he does have a grade 1 ROP (retinopathy of premature infants) but that's the lowest they can have IF they have any at all. Of course, we would rather that Logan had none, but considering all this baby could have wrong.. a stage 1 is something we can deal with. This ROP affects the red blood vessels in the form of abnormality as I understand it. They will check him again in 2 weeks to see how and what it's doing. It can go 2 ways.... stay the same or get worse. Our prayers are it goes no further. I have said from the beginning that I believe he can see.... how good? I don't know, but he does have vision I believe. He does have some scaring on one of his eyes and it's unknown how it got there. At this writing, I don't know if or what they will do about it.
He had a full 35 cc's of milk from a bottle while his mommy held him last night! Beth said he made such sucking noises that the nurses were laughing at him. And that when she burps him, he sounds like a "man" !!! Our little star baby :) Our very own miracle.!!
His weight is great! He went down a little yesterday, to 4 lbs 2.1 oz because of another dose of Lasix he had received to keep the fluid off of his lungs, but this morning, he was back up to 4 lbs. 4 1/2 oz.
His little arms and legs are filling out so much. He has that "baby" look to him with the most beautiful pink cheeks. They actually look like he has blush on them. He has grown into his nose!! LOL When he was born, it was really BIG! But now, his features are becoming his own and besides the beauty of the miracle.... this child is indeed beautiful. I know every old crow thinks it's baby is the blackest.... but I'm telling you he is BEAUTIFUL!!
Tomorrow "our"... (he belongs to so many who love and care about him) child will be 2 months old. Our tears of fear have turned to tears of joy. Joy at the blessing that God has bestowed on Logan and those of us who are fortunate enough to be with him on a daily basis, and joy at what this little infant has accomplished. Logan, thru prayers and the help of God, has not only surpassed all expectations in his development, even his survival ...... but he has brought about thousands in a common bond.. and in prayer.
Think about it..... how many of you have asked friends and family to pray for Logan, and then added a prayer you may have forgotten to do so in the past? I told Beth last night that God has plans for this baby. In my heart of hearts, I believe it to be so. When he sleeps, he smiles all the time... my Mom used to tell me that when a baby smiles in their sleep, the angels are singing :) She was right. Truly the angels sing to Logan.
I hope everyone who's a parent will take the time in their busy world to look at your children as they sleep. Nothing is more precious. That innocence, those beautiful faces. Puts our priorities where they belong!
Another big day ahead for him tomorrow.... he gets his first shots! Ouch! But he's a big guy now and it's time for big guy things ;) I'm sure he won't feel well afterward.... none do. But it's great to think that he's come far enough to be given "normal" stuff!... like full term babies receive.
He is wearing just "preemie" clothing now. He has gone from the minute tiny clothes provided by the "Threads of Love" people, to "Teeny Weeny Preemie" clothing to now just "preemie". And the way he's doing, soon he will be in newborn regular baby sizes I'm sure. What a step!!.... how far he has come!
The medical staff still believe that he will indeed be ready to leave the hospital by his due date which should have been around Oct. 28th. He probably will be going home with oxygen and monitors due to his "cruddy" little lungs. But that won't last forever...... at least they see him going home. Thank You God!
I'm sorry this got a little long folks. It always seems like I have more and more to share and tell you about Termite. And I always want to remember to tell you how much we appreciate all of you. To ask that you remember Logan and his friends that need your prayers also.... Little Ryan, the remaining triplets (who are steady at this time... because of privacy laws I can't divulge too much information on them), Faith, a very special daughter to her daddy, and to the medical staff who care for all of them.
Have a wonderful day, and thank you.... from Logan and from all in our family.
Logan's Nana
TC, what have you been teaching that boy during those visits??!! ;-)
I pray Logan will be able to see his Mom and Dad and and be able to notice every line in their faces as they smile and coo at him. I pray that he will see family that love him so. I pray Logan will watch a sunset, see a bird take off for flight, watch monkeys in the zoo, and be touched with how awesome and beautiful nature is. I pray Logan will have lots of silly books to read, and he will have a favorite that he looks at over and over again.I pray Logan's sight will grow stronger and more useful to him. I will pray for you Logan, everyday. You are a miracle and fighter. With that combonation, you just can't go wrong!
We talked for a few minutes, and it was a positive situation. She also gave me some information brochures and we also talked about Logan.
I think I heard him singing while we were talking. Can't imagine why.....
Hey Termite, just remember when those mean ole' doctors are checking your eyes, it might stink at the time, and it might hurt like the dickens, but they do mean really, really well, and it is for your own good.
(((((Big Hugs!))))) for Logan, lil' Ryan, the twins, and the staff at the hospital.
A loving and healthy bump for Baby Logan.
"Termite's" going to need a new nickname pretty soon!
When he sleeps, he smiles all the time... my Mom used to tell me that when a baby smiles in their sleep, the angels are singing"
I've not heard this before. It's beautiful...and I will be quoting your mom often ;^)
"Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) has been divided into five stages. Stages 1 and 2 customarily get better on their own. Some eyes, however, go on to Stage 3 retinopathy of prematurity."
There's more, but it was way too technical.
As you said, Logan's Gramma (LG), if he HAD to have this, thank goodness it's at the lowest level.
I also pray for his lungs. As somebody mentioned (probably LG), he's doing all of his growing that should have been done inside his mommy's tummy, on the outside.
You've got the best team taking care of baby Logan. It sounds like they're doing everything right. He's thriving, and growing, and gaining weight. And his new pictures look absolutely beautiful. <:D
