LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Republican candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger has the attention of Californians who, according to a poll released Sunday, think he should be taken seriously as a candidate for California's governor.

He leads the long list of hopefuls with 42 percent of poll respondents saying there is a good chance they would vote for him. To win -- if voters agree to recall Democratic Gov. Gray Davis -- a candidate needs only a simple plurality of votes.

CNN correspondents Dana Bash, Miguel Marquez, Bob Franken, Candy Crowley, Deborah Feyerick, Kelly Wallace and Thelma Gutierrez, senior political analyst Bill Schneider, Producer Eric Fiegel, and senior analyst Jeff Greenfield contributed to this report.

And hissed and gnashed their teeth with every sentence. LOL!

Davis said he expects to be in the governor's office October 8.

. . . at least until the men in white coats arrive, anyway. eh?

Davis, in a CNN interview Saturday, asked former President Bill Clinton to help him retain his position by visiting the state and speaking against the recall. Describing himself as a "a fighter, not a quitter," Davis said he expects to be in the governor's office October 8.

I would love to see Clinton and his wife come out to CA and campaign against Arnold! That would help Arnold IMHO. And when Davis loses and Arnold takes over it would be a nail in the Clinton political hopes for Clinton's wife!

I actually agree with Davis on something -- he will be in his office on October 8th -- cleaning it out for Arnold to move in!

HAHAHAHAHA! Bye bye, Davis! Between the 'Toon and Mulholland, Arnold's gonna get 75% of the vote!

I'm hoping for the men in the blue uniforms. The armed ones. Wouldn't it be funny to see Davis literally DRAGGED out of the Governor's Mansion in handcuffs, like a perp walk?

Arnie's donating to some PC charities: Simon Wiesenthal Center, Nelson Mandela fund. Looks like he's doing everything right.

Gee, I must be stupid. I finally figured out why Arnold is NOT a Democrat!! He believes in giving HIS OWN money away. Democrats believe in giving OTHER PEOPLE'S money away.

I guess that's why Al Gore only gave a few hundred dollars to charity. If he gave more, he might have been mistaken for a Republican.

And I guess that's why the Clinton's deducted donations of Bill's used underwear as charitable contributions, but only at $3 each.

Wonderful news. Thanks so much for posting it.

LOL! I hope Clinton keeps this up.

Looks like McClintock didn't even rate an honorable mention. When will he withdraw and announce his support for Arnold?

Republicans contribute more to charity than Democrats do. They put their money where their mouth is. When it comes to helping the less fortunate in our society the Democrats are all talk and no action. (Unless they need them as political props for their next campaign).

We all owe Arnold a debt of gratitude for pushing the Kobe Bryant crapola off all the cablenews channels.

It will be fun to watch all the CNN/CNBC/MSNBC/Couric clones choke on their bile as Arnold sweeps the polls.

I want both Clintons out in CA campaigning for Davis!

Figured out the best way to keep Hillary from running in 2004 is to elect Arnold as California Governor. Hillary has to have a RAT as Governor of CA to run in 2004 because FL and NY have Republican Governors and Texas isn't even in the mix for 2004 -- already in the win column for Pres Bush! She has to have one big state that has a DemocRAT Governor which meant either NY or CA -- with Arnold she is doomed! They never calculated that the Recall would be accomplished and that Arnold would throw his hat in the ring!

Then in 2006, New Yorkers can send her permanently packing back to NY or wherever as long as she is out of the Senate and her aspirations for higher office crushed!
