MONROVIA, Liberia — West African peacekeeping forces drove into Liberia's rebel-besieged, famished capital yesterday to deafening cheers from its residents.

I hope Taylor cooperates and gets out. But in any case, this is exactly how the situation should be handled, and I think Bush has managed it very well. The West African peace force clearly has our support and encouragement, but they are doing it themselves.
Not only does it not look like any AMerican lives will be lost, it looks as if the Nigerian peace force will be well accepted and is less likely to add another element of conflict to the situation (which is what would have happened had we gone in directly).
