Incompetent Governor Uses Vintage Clinton Line Against Recall
KABC RADIO NEWS | 8-7-03 | dfu Posted on 08/08/2003 12:14 AM CDT by doug from upland
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it was almost like total recall. I just heard on KABC news the voice of Gray Davis. Indeed, you can tell that Clinton has a hand in the Davis defense.
"Recall will not educate one child or create one job."
That is absolutely classic Clinton. The defenders of Scumbag used those same words in the impeachment battle.
Gray, we have news for you. Recall is not supposed to educate a child or create a job. It is supposed to educate elected officials that they will be held accountable, and it is supposed to take your job.
For Clinton, it was to remove a rapist and a traitor and a perjurer who tried to fix a federal sexual harassment lawsuit and deny a woman her day in court.
To: PeaceBeWithYou
"Recall will not educate one child or create one job." The hell it won't. Gray Davis' recall is already serving to educate my children that if you're entrusted with a job, and you're a slimebag who totally screws it up, you just might lose that position of trust.
Now that's what I call a valuable educational experience.
And as for whether recall will create a job, well, you're going to be able to ask Arnold about that.

This must be some kind of a record.....over 1000 posts for something that didn't happen! LOL

I suggest changing the thread title to "Waiting For Godot".
To: hellinahandcart
Just checking the thread to see if GreyOut made an appearance after I went to bed last night! LOL I thought he might have waited until he was sure not many were there to ask questions.

You're entitled to your opinion as to "conservative," but you're not entitled to your own facts. Arnold is a registered Republican. Make of that what you will. Mayor Bloomberg is a registered republican and ran for mayor on the republican ticket. To call him a republican is a joke. Or does having an (R) after his name qualify him as a republican? While technically it might, he is no republican.

Let Bustamante take over. Next year's budget will be harder. Let the Democrats continue to lie in the bed they made.
Meaning, let the Democrats lay off the thousands of state workers they have hired since 1998. The angry workers might well become Republicans.
Letting another Democrat take over means a possible Republican sweep, of all state houses in California, in November 2004.
Please, please, let Bustamante or another Democrat win.

Arnold is such a republican that many wackos at DU are supportive of him, and trying to convince their fellow DUers that Arnold is more liberal than Gray Davis and would be a good thing for California!
Republican my ass!

Such impeccable logic. Such an ass.
To: hoosiermama
I agree.
I don't trust even the 'mere' fact that his wife is a Shriver. He's far, far too close to the liberal clique for me.
I don't like a list of things about him. The homo stand, infanticide stand, etc.
BUT as you say, I believe he is much more for the people than even the next 20 democruds put together and probably than the next 10 Repubs put together.
Regardless, it's a moot issue. Unless Arnold were to bow out--very, very, very much against his personality etc. . . Riordan could walk on water, but until he began to obviously, persistently and authentically to appear to be MUCH MORE OF A SUPER MAN than Arnold, all he would do is split the vote and help Grey Sewer Water Davis. The best any of them could do at this point is split the ticket and help Grey Sewer.
I may not like the factors and variables, but overhauling Sacramento is a pretty high priority. Whatever chance Arnold has, it's a much bigger chance by virtue of his personality, bankroll and public personna than a list of any other candidates put together. So, we may as well get behind the best chance and go for it IMHO.
Life is full of damned if we do and damned if we don't choices these days.
There's just no way any other conservative candidate can do more than throw a little sand on Arnold's big toes. I'd rather not take away from throwing rocks on Grey Sewer's uhhhh political grave.

What about him makes him a republican other than the R after his name on the ballot?
If Bill Clinton registered as a republican, would he suddenly be a republican?

what time is the press conference?
To: Phantom Lord
What about him makes him a republican other than the R after his name on the ballot?
(What, I only get one response to my last post? The time before that, I got two-for-one!)
The short answer to your question is, he views the role of government, especially its taxing, spending and regulatory functions, as properly being much more narrow, more limited, than do Democrats. He's no McClintock, but clearly he is more conservative on these issues by a good sight than Davis or Bustamante.
Since you mentioned Bloomberg: Okay, true, he's disappointed conservatives by hiking taxes. No bones about that. But would you prefer that Bloomberg's Democrat opponent had won? How much would taxes have been jacked up in that event?
It's noble that you are so pure ideologically that someone like Schwarzenegger, who isn't so pure, is to be persona non grata, even in a state in which Republican wins, particularly by conservative Republicans, are quite rare. Noble, but unlikely to result in very many wins at the ballot box.
The bottom line for me is that, although I'd ideologically prefer McClintock, I believe that he only has about a 40-50% of winning (and that's in a Schwarzenegger- and Feinstein-free recall). Tempting, but I'm risk-averse by nature, and I personally would rather take what I see as a 67% chance of Schwarzenegger's winning. Yes, there's a big trade-off.
But I think you're underestimating Arnold both as a candidate and as a fiscal conservative. (And no, I don't mean "fiscal conservative" in the sense that Howard Dean is somehow being portrayed as one.) As one of the state's leading political columnists has pointed out,
people are prone to underestimate Schwarzenegger.
And
here is the same writer's column explaining Why Arnold Will Win If He Runs.
Schwarzenegger has a degree in business from U. of Wisconsin and invested successfully in real estate with what little money he got from appearing in "Pumping Iron." He was so astute at identifying, investing in, and improving the value of distressed real estate in the Santa Monica area that he was a millionaire before he became truly famous in "Conan."
And, yes, he has some very annoying liberal views on social policy questions.
I wish that he could forge some sort of alliance with McClintock, assuring that McClintock were to be "on the team" in attacking fiscal reforms aggressively, while Arnold focuses, like Reagan could, on "retail politics."
You're entitled to pursue the pure-conservative-or-nothing approach. It might work better. I don't think it will, though. So please refrain from dissing people who, although no less conservative than you, want to try a different strategy, a more gradualist strategy, in seeking to turn California around. (I certainly am not one to diss purist conservatives as always "costing us elections," etc., which some GOP folks in CA do. It'd be nice to get the same respect back.)

That slimy S.O.B. showed up in Lancaster yesterday at the funeral of a murdered Deputy Sheriff. Didn't go to any other murdered Police officers funerals during his term in office. What a piece of doo-doo.

That one is terrific! You must post it on the no news conference thread I pinged you too! This is priceless!
