[history]
A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largess from the public treasury.

This Xer is already paying 1.50X more in Social Security than he does in rent.

I wouldn't be too concerned about this. I have enough faith in the nihilistic, pragmatic, depraved nature of this country to realize that most of these Baby Boomers will be euthanized (even against their will) once the Social Security and Medicare pyramid schemes start to collapse.

Would the X-ers prefer that Mom and Dad move in with them?

Count on it. With "right to die" will also come "right to put out of misery." Watch it coming to a leftist agenda near you.

Uh oh. The young people are beginning to catch on. This radical must be silenced before he alerts the others!

Would the X-ers prefer that Mom and Dad move in with them?Boomers can find other things to do besides play Nintendo, so there shouldn't be any conflict.

Huh? FICA is capped at what, 85k at 15%? So that amounts to maybe $12,750/yr?
And you rent in Arlinton, VA, for 66% of that, 8500/yr,or 710/mo?
How do you live in Arlington, pay $700/mo in rent, and make $85k/Yr?

Well, I'm a boomer who intends to work for another 15 to 20 years. It's my Xer son who thinks everyone should have entitlements, no matter how much I argue with him that we should all be in more control of our money and of our lives.
To: AdamSelene235
You wrote that the generation just before the "Baby Boomers" was the generation that won World War II, the "Greatest Generation". Are you stupid or disingenuous?
Baby Boomers are a category born between 1946 and 1965. The generation before them, therefore, is the one born, roughly, 1930-1946, none of which served in WW2.
To foster a generational "war" between Baby Boomers and Gen Xers means you, clearly, are exactly what your handle says: An agitator.
This is not a serious debate.
Just ask Gen Y, those born between 1982-2003.
When you have a serious conversation with anybody in Gen Y, they dislike Gen Xers more than you dislike Boomers.
Watch your back. Gen Y is gaining on you!

Yes, if that is required, thats how it used to be, isn't it?

If it comes down to it, why shouldn't parents move in with their children? It happens every day.

No, all I expect from my Boomer parents is that they pay for their own damned retirement and not expect me to help them out. However, since they've been spending every dime they've ever made and saved nothing, I doubt they'll have a nice retirement.
To: patton
Thanks, patton (cool revolvers, sir!). I was about to ask him why he hadn't moved out of the parents' house yet.

I agree. What's the use of a human being after retirement if they haven't prepared (saved lots of money) for their own retirement? They are no longer being productive. They are no longer worth anything. Let's put them to sleep like the crippled horses that they will be. Life is terminal, deal with it and don't make Gen-X and Gen-Y pay billions of dollars, cheating us out of 30-40 years of prosperity to extend your lives an extra 1-5 years.

If it comes down to it, why shouldn't parents move in with their children? They could, but they certainly aren't entitled to it. Lord knows my parents (Boomers) deserve to reap the consequences of their stupidity in life.

I tell my parents (64 and 63), tongue in cheek, "be nice to me or no window room for you at the home (20 years from now)." In all seriousness, I don't know how I'll be able to afford CA housing costs, private schools for pre-college kids, college costs, braces ... AND aging parents, PARTICULARLY if I'm being crushed by hiked FICA taxes.

Don't worry.
Over the next twenty years the population of the world will decline by 70-80%.
To: AdamSelene235
Playing a "generation card" is just as tasteless and logically fallacious as playing a race card, and ultimately plays into the hands of the liberals. They can use silly rants like this one to tell anyone over 45, "See? It really IS us against them! You better vote Democrat or they're coming for you!"
