Episcopalian Vote on Gay Bishop Postponed

Reuters Monday, August 4, 2003; 7:57 PM

By Sarah Tippit

MINNEAPOLIS (Reuters) - Episcopal bishops postponed a vote at the last minute on Monday on the church's first openly gay bishop to investigate charges of sexual misconduct.

"We have two concerns: one, his relationship to the Web site of Outright.org, and two, an e-mail accusation of inappropriate conduct circulated to a group of bishops," New Hampshire Bishop Douglas Theuner told his fellow [snip]...in reference to the Rev. Gene Robinson, who was set to succeed him as Bishop of New Hampshire.

...[snip] A highly visible figure during the church's convention over the past week, Robinson was not available to comment.

Church officials gave reporters copies of a recent e-mail sent to bishops by a man identified as David Lewis of Manchester, Vermont, claiming that Robinson touched him improperly "a couple of years ago" and calling him a "grab-assing skirt-chaser."

"My personal experience with him is he does not maintain appropriate boundaries with men. ..."[snip]...

The church will also look into a Web site for Outright, a group Robinson co-founded to help gay teens, that both his supporters and opponents say recently had links to pornographic Web sites.

A check of the Web site on Monday, http://outright.org, revealed no links. A Robinson supporter, Rev. Susan Russell, said the links showed up six months ago without Robinson's knowledge and had been removed.

Conservative church member David Anderson said Robinson should have been aware of the links. ...

Ah Yes..those links that just show up on their own!! How can this be? If we just waited long enough would an entire web site show up without human intervention?

Wondering.

This may be true now, but this morning when I checked it out from another article, you would not believe the porn that came up on some of the links!

I think Griswold has chickened out, and, as befits a characterless chickensh*t, has come up with this to slow the process down.

I don't know what's worse-that they would vote on him to begin with, or, after chickening out they would decide to hang him this way.

They should go ahead and vote. Postponing it is just a way for them to keep the Gay agenda in front of the church.

Yes, it would be better to keep it (inside) the church. (sarcasm)

I found a lot of links earlier today when I nosed around the various local outright chapters. They've just done cosmetic hiding.

Looks like Ms. Russell acted with all due haste to clean up the site.

I'm sure there are those who copied it in time, though,as evidence of the moral turpitude ofRobinson.

Amazing, the modernists who run the Episcopalian Church will move the ancient landmark far enough to allow sodomites to preach, but when it comes to sexually harassing men and linking porn sites to their web pages, they still have standards.

I don't understand exactly. Is this David Lewis (straight) a transvestite? Was he wearing a dress when he was groped by the bishop? Is he claiming the bishop was fondling women too?

Why yes, but some would call it 'Intelligent Design' while others would argue for 'Evolution'!

According to Fox News, the parenthetical part of the headline wasn't applied by Robinson's accuser to Robinson himself, as these two paragraphs from the email make clear:

". . .If you knew that a married straight male priest known for big parish leadership and fundraising as well as prophetic theological outspokenness was also a grab-assing skirt-chaser whose improprieties has [sic] nearly brought law suits against the church, would you even hesitate to withhold consent for such a priest to be consecrated a bishop in the apostolic succession?

Well, as outstanding as Gene Robinson may have been thus far as a priest and diocesan administrator, my personal experience of him is that he has does not maintain appropriate boundaries with men. I believe this is an alarming weakness of character that alone makes Gene unsuitable for the office of bishop."

This Robinson guy probably heard too many 'as the bishop said to the actress' jokes as a child, and got the wrong idea as to the nature of the vocation.

A mistake anyone could make!
