The blaring music thats now a standard feature at book signings by Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) is not part of a new summer marketing campaign.
Its an audio protest by Free Republic, a conservative group, whose members have been showing up with their boom boxes wherever Clinton appears.
Were not hassling her, said Kris Tinn, co-leader of the groups Washington chapter. Its just our way of correcting her version of history.
Free Republic has put together what it calls the 2003 Hilla-Palooza tape for local chapters to play outside bookstores, shopping malls or anywhere else Clinton is signing copies of Living History, her bestselling White House memoir.
The latest play dates were last weekend at Clinton appearances in Little Rock and Blytheville, Ark., where people waiting in line got an earful of rock and country classics, including Evil Woman by the Electric Light Orchestra, Tammy Wynettes Stand by Your Man and The Bitch is Back by Elton John.
Despite the demand, the 12-song tapes are not for sale. That would be illegal, said Tinn.

Most reporters don't take shorthand. Many errors come from not being able to read their own handwritten notes. But the important thing is their name is always spelled correctly on the byline.

ll have any problems, either. FReepers across the country have established and upheld our reputation for peaceful, law-abiding but passionate protesting. Folks respect us for that, but they love us because we have alot of fun doing what we do.

A paint stirrer, attached so that only the curved handle is exposed, is good.
Also, a cardboard tube, flattened is good. That passed muster in NYC where the police were very strict when the Chinese premiere was there. It was long enough to hold high.
Next time I Freep, I'm going to try two tubes stapled in one length. Long enough to let rest on the ground, yet be high enough to see.

Laws vary by jurisdiction. In D.C., wooden sticks are allowed up to three feet long and two inches wide. No metal or sharp stakes allowed. In New York City the only thing allowed to support your sign is cardboard tubing.
We've never had a problem using the wooden sticks allowed under D.C. law and we've never been sued. Use your best judgment in accordance with your local laws.
