Graham: Release Sealed 9/11 Report Info

By KEN GUGGENHEIM, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Citing the Saudi ambassador's claim that his country has "nothing to hide," Sen. Bob Graham called Monday on President Bush to declassify a 28-page section of the congressional report into the Sept. 11 attacks dealing with foreign support for the hijackers.

Releasing the report "will permit the Saudi government to deal with any questions which may be raised in the currently censored pages, and allow the American people to make their own judgment about who are our true friends and allies in the war on terrorism," Graham, D-Fla., said in a letter to Bush. Graham, who co-chaired the inquiry, is a Democratic presidential candidate.

After the report was released last Thursday, Saudi Ambassador Prince Bandar bin Sultan issued a statement saying that "28 blanked-out pages are being used by some to malign our country and our people."

"Saudi Arabia has nothing to hide. We can deal with questions in public, but we cannot respond to blank pages," he said.

Citing those comments, Graham said Bandar "has joined in asking that the pages be declassified."

There was no immediate comment from the White House or the Saudi embassy.

House and Senate members released the full, 850-page report finding a series of errors and miscommunications kept U.S. authorities from pursuing clues before the attacks. The 28-page section dealing with "sensitive national security matters" was almost entirely redacted.

The information is widely believed to center on Saudi Arabia, birthplace of Osama bin Laden and 15 of the 19 hijackers. Saudi Arabia has vehemently denied supporting the hijackers.

In discussing the classified section this weekend on "Fox News Sunday" Graham said high officials of a foreign government "made substantial contributions to the support and well-being of two of these terrorists and facilitated their ability to plan, practice and then execute the tragedy of Sept. 11."

He declined to identify the country, citing laws against divulging classified information.

The top Republican senator on the inquiry, Richard Shelby, said Sunday on NBC that 95 percent of the classified pages could be released without jeopardizing national security.

28 pages smack of cover-up.

Shelby says 90% of that appears to him to have to reason to be classified.

After the fuss, the Admin will release 80-90% "under pressure."

That should deflect future questions about the 10-20% that remains classified. Thus, the Saudis can be protected, and every body is happy.

It still smacks of cover-up, except that it is only 10-20% cover-up thereafter.

Politics!

Is Graham an IDIOT?! Doesn't he know that as long as it is classified, we have the Saudis by the Camel-Hairs? This keeps the Saudis publicly in support of us, and they are a powerful ally to have while we have an army in the middle of the Arabian Pennisula.

Some things are classified because it is better for everyone involved. I am so sick of the left. I think since they hate this country so much, they should do themselves and each of us a favor and leave.

Hardly.
Graham, Shelby and even Schumer are dead right on this. Bush needs to get his priorties straight and start respecting the American people as much as he does the House of Saud. He's trading in our right to know the truth about the worst-ever foreign attack on this country...for what? Some more faux cooperation from the guilty party itself?

Graham: Release Sealed 9/11 Report Info

Yeah, you release the several hundred redacted pages from Christopher Cox' Report on Chinese Espionage, O.K. Mr. Graham?
The stolen information includes classified information on seven U.S. thermonuclear warheads, including every currently deployed thermonuclear warhead in the U.S. ballistic missile arsenal.
The stolen information also includes classified design information for an enhanced radiation weapon (commonly known as the "neutron bomb"), which neither the United States, nor any other nation, has yet deployed.
The PRC has obtained classified information on the following U.S. thermonuclear warheads, as well as a number of associated reentry vehicles (the hardened shell that protects the thermonuclear warhead during reentry).
Do that Mr. Graham, so we can see how much of that happened on Billy Jeff's watch, and we'll negotiate. What a spineless human Graham is.

It's just possible that the stuff is classified to protect sources and methods, something which neither Graham nor Shelby would be a position to judge. Perhaps someone took the lazy way out and classifed an entire page, when just a paragraph would do. (Yes I know the entire page would still be marked as classified, but if the classifed paragraph(s) were redacted, then the page markings could be removed)

Graham and Shelby must both be idiots. I don't know why so many people want to be uninformed around here. Everything is supposed to be hush-hush. Is there a purpose to the madness or is it convenient to be ignorant?

Graham who is on the Intelligence Committee and Shelby who was, have each read thousands of intelligence reports and should have a pretty good idea of what highly classified material looks like. When Shelby suggests that 90 percent of the Saudi chapter doesn't fit what he recognizes as that sort of material, he has some basis to say that.

The fact that a cover was slapped on the entire Saudi chapter points to exactly what Shelby and Graham suggest, that this stuff is being covered up for political reasons. Hopefully Shelby, through his Treasury Commitee investigation into Al Qaeda financing will get the American public the truth about the worst-ever attack on America that Bush has chosen to hide from us.

The only reason the dems want those pages released is because THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING ELSE IN THE REPORT WHICH DIRECTLY POINTS TO BUSH - don't you know this report is all about making Bush responsible for 9/11 ..???

And .. because Graham was Chairman of the Intelligence Committee - HE ALREADY KNOWS WHAT THOSE PAGES SAY! This is just a ploy - just a game - just a way to MAKE BUSH LOOK GUILTY OF SOMETHING - ANYTHING!!

Graham just needs to retire - go home - and shut up!

You're right. Who cares who murdered 3,000 Americans? Who cares if those who forced hundreds to jump rather than burn are ever brought to justice? So long as George Bush says the Saudis are our friends - that's good enough for me.

Graham's idiocy transcends his position on disclosing this portion of the 911 report. And although I respect Sen Shelby, right or wrong he does have an axe to grind with the intelligence community. In Graham's case his spouting off incoherently is purely partisan politics and has nothing to do with his concern for your or my safety.

As far as your comment about people wanting to be "uninformed" around, I do think it's that at all. At least for me it's not. Having spent 3 years in Saudi Arabia myself, nothing they do would surprise me, especially after Khobar Towers. Which I might add Mr 'Intelligence' Graham had nothing to say about the Kingdom even though 12 of his constituients died there. I will speculate that was because Willie 'Do Nothing' Clinton was working on his legacy and ordered the RAT cult not to out the Arabs. Having seen the nasty politics of Bob Graham played out in our state, I treat anything he says as suspect. If that makes me ignorant of the facts oh well.

I SAID: Graham just needs to retire - go home - and shut up!

YOU SAID: "You're right. Who cares who murdered 3,000 Americans? Who cares if those who forced hundreds to jump rather than burn are ever brought to justice? So long as George Bush says the Saudis are our friends - that's good enough for me."

How can you make such a stupid, irresponsible statement about George Bush. He's never said - and he's never even pretended to say or implied that the Saudis weren't involved in 9/11. You're assuming a great deal by believing that.

However, the redacted pages may be protecting OUR OWN INTEL GATHERING - instead of protecting the Saudies directly. Oh, but that couldn't be possible could it ..??

Senator Graham is lying - but it's easier to believe George Bush is covering up BECAUSE BUSH ISN'T PAYING ANY ATTENTION TO YOUR PET PROJECT !! W H A T ???

Hmmmm? Seems like a good reason not to believe Bush - he's not paying any attention to immigation .. Yeah sure!

You're right. How could I jump to such a conclusion about our strong conservative President after a mere two years of White House pronouncements about good Saudi "allies" in the war on terror, and Crawford ranch photo ops with smiling wahabbi princes?

BTW - Glad to see you've checked my profile page. Check out the links while you're there. There's a good one on Bush Sr. shilling shamelessly for his Saudi patrons.

Well ... you can believe whatever you want - but you're wrong about Bush and you have allowed the stinking liberals to draw you into their lying scheme to bring him down.

Any president found covering the tracks of people and a regime involved in 9-11, would deserve to be run out of office.

Now I don't know yet that that's the case with Bush, but he's certainly giving an awful imprssion about the relative consideration he gives to 9-11 justice, versus protecting the House of Saud.
