However, Johnny loves France and [to] be living in a tiny village with nothing around. There is still the possibility to live a simple life. You can go to the market, walk about, buy fruits and vegetables -- the things they did 100 and 200 years ago. We have moments when we're sitting in our house and our kids are playing, and we look at one another and think, 'Thank God we escaped.
For Johnny, buying a cucumber or a cabbage from a market is primitive living and living and being in America is a place and state of being, to escape from. Just the same, Johnny wants us all to pay U.S. dollars to see him in the movies so he can continue to badmouth the country that allowed him to become an artiste.
If anyone dare criticize that pompous little twerp for badmouthing America, it is an infringement on his first amendment rights.

Easy to lose yourself in your little world. My world apparently is not as small as yours. I don't even consider Depp a part of it. It seems he represents a great portion of yours.

Great movie.
He was not stoned or drunk, he simply acted the part.....the part that was required of him.
Sheesh, too bad you have no idea what good acting is.
An actor is supposed to do what????
ACT!
What a bunch of stone age hens we have here posting silly ripeness of which they have no knowledge.

On one thing the French have America beat. They don't give a damn about the Hollywood crowd. Just as we don't know French performers they don't know American ones I assume that's one of the things he likes about it.

Sounds like you are envious........
People that compare others lifestyles to their own either have nothing better to do or are so caught up in their own self righteousnes as to be totally uncomprehending as to what they would or could do given the same circumstance.
Yes?

"That makes him very unimportant in my estimation."
Evidently not to everyone judging by his defenders. He is indeed a talented actor. If all he said was "the "war" (I call it a "police action") was all about money, then it comes nowhere near what the dixie chumps, baldwin, sarandon et al.. have said, therefore, if all he said is as stated above, I don't find any reason to boycott his movies.

I have to agree with you. I have not seen him spew his diatribe on TV or participate in anti-war protests or write letters to Congress bashing Bush, or buy full page ads, as babs, susan, charlie etc felt compelled to do. When I see them in a movie or show, no matter what role they are playing, all I can see are mean spirited moral hating lefists, who are always thinking of ways to punish goodness and reward evil with our tax dollars.
PIRATES-- IS ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES I HAVE SEEN IN A VERY LONG TIME.
I liked Jack Sparrow and felt only a Johnny Depp could have played the part. His lines were filled with double entendres, and will warrant seeing it at least twice.

You are right.
Here I am asking you what you would do or not do if you had Mr. Depps fortune.
It is not my place to say what you would do or say if you were in Mr. Depps shoes.
And really, if I could swill $18,000 bottles of fine vintage wine and party with Richards and Woods.........well, so be it.
Are you saying you would not welcome the opportunity? Are you really truly that chaste? Even if you could celebrate with them and still retain your preordained state of mind?
Gosh, Just to think of a party with Mr. Richards and just walk out when everyone else is wasted in the wee hours of the morning.
Could you do it without corruption?

I recently heard some local DJ's talking about Depp's cinematic career.
It seems, out of about 20 movies, all but one or two were huge losses for the producers.

Mr. Depp does not choose to tell us how to live. But yet, many try to say how he should live and where to live. Is that proper?Yes, it is.1

According to People Magazine, Johnny regularly cuts his own arms to mark important events in his life.Self-mutilation is a common theme of the mentally ill.

So by your patriotic 'findings' you wish to twist a simple discussion on Mr. Depp's actions into a Constitutional issue?
Ah com'n...........get real.

Lucky for France the majority of Americans like my father did not fall into the Depp category or they would be speaking German today. Semper Fi. Well said. Kudos to your Dad for his wartime service.

I hate having to explain simple footnoting constructs. Here, let me try again in a more simplistic fashion:

You'll not hold much sway with the moral relativists here on FR. They have no point of reference, are unable to identify right and wrong, and are so open-minded that their brains are falling out.
