Making the world a better place, one beer at a time.

For each and every one of you, your own appreciation of beer is something deeply personal. The appreciation of Beer is also something that is universal. Beer Church is about the relationship of the two; your personal affection for beer, and humanity's overwhelming love of Beer. Beer Church is a celebration of Beer (with a capital "B"). Beer Church represents the "something larger than yourself" to which you belong by virtue of your very personal love for beer. Beer Church is about the one thing that we all have in common, regardless of all of our other differences. Something we all believe in. Beer.

Any gender, any sexual preference, any nationality, any shoe size or hair style; beer drinkers of the world are all part of something much larger than themselves. They are part of a loosely connected, diverse social group of countless individuals all around the world, with at least one thing in common. Beer. And sure, someone might be able to say the same thing about cheese, or coffee, or many other things, but we didn't. We said it about beer. And because you know the difference, you are one of us. You are Beer Church.

At last count, Beer Church has over 40,000 registered members from 26 different countries around the world.

Just imagine what we can do! The Beer Church Mission Statement

Charity - We intend to expose Beer enthusiasts to, and organize them for the benefit of, various charitable, civic and compassionate causes, offering our members the opportunity to contribute collectively or individually. Although we are primarily a local organization in the Seattle, WA area, we attract the attention of beer enthusiasts around the world with our Web site. We intend to provide an example of the good things that can be done. We believe that beer's worldwide popularity can and should be used to band people together for the benefit of society as a whole.

Civic Responsibility - We believe in promoting responsible fun. Beer should be part of a recipe for positive social activity, but is too often used as part of a recipe for disaster. We urge everyone to be personally responsible all of the time. Anything else is disrespectful of yourself and your community.

The Web site - It is the goal of Beer Church to provide a fun, informative and useful Web site for persons all around the globe who are interested in and passionate about beer. The Web site is an evolving expression of our membership's needs and wishes. All suggestions will be welcomed and sincerely considered so that we may better serve the Beer enthusiasts of the world.

We are THERE.

Would the Night of a Thousand Beers become a regular celebration for our High Holy Days?

Here is the highest prayer in the Beer Church

THE BEER PRAYER

Our lager,
Which art in barrels,
Hallowed be thy drink,
Thy will be drunk,
(I will be drunk),
At home as I am in the tavern.
Give us this day our foamy head,
And forgive us our spillages,
As we forgive those who spill against us,
and lead us not to incarceration,
But deliver us from hangovers,
For thine is the beer,
The bitter and the lager,
Forever and ever,
Barmen.

1 - If the beer smells dreadful that means it's cheap crappy beer, in the common parlance: skunky beer. Skunky beer is to be foisted off on young members of the clan, it helps discourage their natural curiousity about booze
2 - The list of things that make people act really stupid is long and includes members of the opposite sex, avoiding those things can be bad for survival of the clan

We drink it because we have better taste than you.

We may have some splits on the congregation - the Stouts vs. the Lagers, Lambics vs. Pilsners, etc.

The official prayer of The Order of the Bottle, a religion created by me in 1972 when I had a lot of time on my hands over a period of a few days:

Our Father, who art in the Bottle,
Hallowèd be thy spirits
Thy Kingdom come
Thy will be done
In the bars as in the taverns
Give us this day our daily booze
And forgive us our sobrieties
As we would forgive those who are also sober
For thine is the brewery, the distillery, and the drunken stupor
For ever and ever
Burp!

I had a list of Tenets too, but lost them decades ago.

As you can well imagine, I'm still the only member.

1) It smells utterly dreadful and 2) it makes people act really stupid.

If it smells bad, you've got a bad batch. And if you don't like the smell of good ol' lager, there's always porter, stout, bitter or pilsner for starters.

I'm at a loss as to why anyone would ever drink it...

"Tastes great!"
"Less filling!"

This is a good place to show off my new, homemade counterflow chiller! It cools boiling beer wort to 80 degrees in one pass. Just add hops and yeast.

Homebrewing rules!

Well, I like your local brew. It was one of the things I missed most in my two years out in Colorado, lost in the land of Coors Light.
