July 24, 2003 -- All of a sudden, Rudy Giuliani doesn't look quite so paranoid, does he?

All of a sudden, maybe the imposing City Hall security he insisted on - even before 9/11 - doesn't seem quite so silly.

Does it?

But I thought that New York had GUN CONTROL!

How can this happen?

The guy must have gone to one of those evil gun shows.

I heard something about Bloomberg had relaxed the security measures that Rudy had in place. This is a bizzare story. Talk about bad blood between political rivals. Hollywood will want the story rights I'm sure. Prayers for the families and victims though.

Is that too high a price to pay?

Ask the family of Councilman James Davis, felled by a bullet at age 41.

A moment's cautious routine, or a life lost to pay the price of learning?

Ironic about this event is that it could just as well have been done outside on the street -- they were talking together outside before the shooting.

If the perp had done it outside - where there may not have been an armed guard - he might have killed more people, and be alive today!

No security if perfect. The only thing that is fool proof is second guessing.

Interestingly enough, I was watching a documentary a few months ago that suggested that Ceaser knew he was going to be killed that day. That he had various afflictions, including incontinence, that he thought would ruin his name forever, so he walked willingly into the assaination. Can't vouch for the accuracy.

The attacker had a gun. The victim had a gun. The plain clothes cop who shot the attacker had a gun. Seems like damned near everyone in the room had a gun so I guess we know what NY's version of gun control is worth.

In other words, it's not really a gun ban, it's only a gun ban if you don't have political juice. If you do, then it's perfectly OK to have a gun no matter how crazy you are(apparently).

USA Today said that the victim was carrying a gun himself but didn't use it. Hmm ...

Guns don't kill people, politicians kill people.

I don't buy that he willingly went to his death. As to alleged incontinence, it is possible when having his seizures, I would have a bladder accident.....but he had had these seizures for years, and it didn't daunt his bravado. I would have liked to have seen that documentary.

City council members and the mayor were allowed to walk around the detector. This guy was talking to the council member and walked with him.

This is a clear example of setting up security and letting it erode.

Yesterday Bloomy said that now everyone has to walk through. DUH!

We watched 'Gangs of NY' on DVD last weekend. This story has some strange echos of the flick. "You must kill the King in front of his court."

Quick Review - Too long, too PC, too much rewritten history. Some would say the brothel scenes were too long and unnecesary, but I wouldn't. heh heh

HOW DID THE GUN GET IN?

Why, it sprouted little legs, and walked in all by itself.
