President Bush, flanked by Secretary of State Donald Rumsfeld, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Gen. Richard B. Myers, and U.S. Administrator in Iraq, Paul Bremer, spoke this morning in the White House Rose Garden regarding the killing of the monstrous sons of Saddam Hussein, Uday and Qusay yesterday, and the positive effect it would have on the Iraqi people, and citing the great progress that has been made by the Coalition Forces in Iraq.

Later in the morning he welcomed former President of the Czech Republic, Vaclav Havel, and Argentine President Nestor Kirchner in the Oval Office. He also found time to honor the Presidential Medal of Honor recipients in the East Room, including Vaclav Havel, Van Cliburn, John Wooden, Roberto Clemente, Dave Thomas and Charleston Heston.

There are lots of pictures today, so enjoy your ample Daily Dose of Dubya!!

President Reagan's doctor said his was brought on when he had that fall from his horse and had to have surgery to relieve the blood clot that formed on his brain. Is this possible?

Sounds possible to me. My mom had Alzheimers and it came on slowly over years...but then she'd take sudden turns for the worse....perhaps Reagan and Heston succumbed rather quickly due to injury to brain. . Docs said my mom was not a typical case, as she went on and on with perfect vital signs and no physical deterioration for 20 years. But the light left her eyes pretty early, and she was a vacant hulk mentally for far too long.

Oh, how terribly sad. I haven't seen Charlton Heston since his announcement. I applaud him for making this public appearance. Seeing that blank look reminds me of my grandfather before he died. He suffered from Alzheimers as well. He always remembered me/knew my name, even when he began to go "down hill." Then, one day, he didn't know my name anymore. And from there on out he was just kind of there. I feel for the Heston family. I am so glad that no sleazeball from the media has ever gotten any pictures of President Reagan in the last few years. I don't think I could bear seeing it. That blank look- just like the picture of President Reagan on the cover of Newsweek when he announced his "long goodbye." How tragic.

My mother died of dementia. It is a long good bye. It's been seven years since she died. She was ill for seven more years before that...slowly dying day by day. Mother knew me till the end, she just couldn't talk. Still miss her.

... had the privilege of leading one young man to the Lord...

That, alone, should be worth some sort of Congressional or Presidential medal. You are to be proud of your son (and I know y'all are.)

In one sense, you certainly hate to see them go, but in another sense you will be forever grateful that you were able to be with her til the end, in spite of the state she was in. My mother feels that way about her dad, while her brother feels guilt for never being here.

"Chiefs"

I remember that show. I loved it. Very suspenseful. I forgot Mr. Heston was in it.

Condolences on your fathers passing. I know how you feel my dad also passed away this year in March. He had 82yrs of life and the last 20 or so he devoted to his Lord and Savior so his passing was much more accepting by all knowing where he would be. Sorry to hear of your loss but happy for your memories that you will always have and pass on to yours.

I love Mancow, he is so outrageous. I look forward to hearing what he has to say in the AM if I am home. My usual shift is 5am so I usually miss it, but if I am home I WATCH FOX & FRIENDS.

Great Dose tonight Ohio.

Wonderful news about Eric. He is, of course, in our daily prayers, as well as all our brave troops.

Is Mancow hyper, or what. I love when they cut to him on Fox and Friends. You'd have to tie him to keep him still.

Reminds me a little of my son, but he's not that bad.

Thank you. (Dad was only 75; his parents lived well into their 80's, so thought we'd have him longer. But, especially after reading some of tonight's thread, his earlier passing was probably a blessing; dad had been in failing health for awhile and was beginning to have the memory lapses due to hardening of the arteries, which made him very short-tempered toward the end. But we all were able to be with him at the hospital, either when or shortly before he died.)

Condolences to you as well.

I remember a neighbor in Florida pushing his wife in a wheelchair talking to friends. All of a sudden she put her foot on the road and said go, go. To all intents and purpose she knew nothing of what was going on. It certainly makes one wonder.
