Oh, how terribly sad. I haven't seen Charlton Heston since his announcement. I applaud him for making this public appearance. Seeing that blank look reminds me of my grandfather before he died. He suffered from Alzheimers as well. He always remembered me/knew my name, even when he began to go "down hill." Then, one day, he didn't know my name anymore. And from there on out he was just kind of there. I feel for the Heston family. I am so glad that no sleazeball from the media has ever gotten any pictures of President Reagan in the last few years. I don't think I could bear seeing it. That blank look- just like the picture of President Reagan on the cover of Newsweek when he announced his "long goodbye." How tragic.

My mother died of dementia. It is a long good bye. It's been seven years since she died. She was ill for seven more years before that...slowly dying day by day. Mother knew me till the end, she just couldn't talk. Still miss her.
