Will most blacks vote for GOP? Uh, no By Andrew Lisa

If the Democratic Party is serious about ridding the country of the Hooked on Phonics dropout we have running the show now, the least they could do is continue pretending to care about black people. Three of the nine Democrats campaigning for the chance to lose to President Bush in 2004 failed to show up for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People's national convention in Miami Beach last week. The group's leader, Kweisi Mfume, was outraged (because they didn't show up, not because his parents named him while smoking dope and playing Scrabble). He said the candidates' "political capital is the equivalent of Confederate dollars."

It's understandable for the NAACP to resent the fact that their loyal Democratic vote is being taken for granted. But if Mr. Mfume wants to conquer racial intolerance, it might be time for him to try some introspection. He's in charge of a group that's still calling black people colored.

But their gripe is legitimate, and the street credibility of Rep. Dick Gephardt, Sen. Joseph Leiberman and Rep. Dennis Kucinich is now in question. And if they're not even going to pretend like they need to woo the black vote, they just might lose it. If the Democrats aren't going to show black people any respect, the NAACP will lead their people back to the party of Lincoln.

There is a silver lining, though, for the three presidential hopefuls. The NAACP is bluffing.

When it comes to voting, there are two choices for black people in this country: bad and worse. And on the slim, outside chance that the Rev. Al Sharpton doesn't win the primaries, we all know black people are going to vote for whoever the Democrats put up there, convention or no convention.

Alright, so three guys blew off the NAACP party. But even though they feel slighted, what are blacks going to do, vote Republican? Please! Look who they'd be keeping company with. The only thing missing at Strom Thurmond's funeral last month was a "whites only" sign.

Mr. Mfume is an intelligent guy. He's not going to tell his people to vote for the group that invented the trickle-down theory, which up until last week Dick Cheney thought was when you stopped the car in Harlem because you had to use the urinal.

How could blacks live with themselves after voting Republican just to get back at a bunch of guys who didn't RSVP? And please don't mention Condoleeza Rice. Bush had to hire her. She's the only black woman he's ever know who wasn't on a syrup bottle.

Compassionate conservative is as blatant an oxymoron as Christian rock. And I don't want to hear about the new GOP, minority outreach bit because Bush is visiting Sudan (which he thought was a four-door luxury car until he got there). The last time a rich, white, Texas conservative visited black people in Africa, it was to buy one.

And unfortunately, the Democrats know it. Blacks have been loyal to them since the federal government made Southern Republicans stop lynching them for trying to vote. And now that vote is taken for granted by the likes of these three chumps. And that's a shame. Not only should Democrats pretend to care about blacks on the campaign trail, but they might want to think about actually doing something for them if they ever get elected again.

And as far as the NAACP goes, stop all this nonsense. Unless you want your situation in this country to be worse than it already is, you're not going to vote Republican and everybody knows it.

The threat is as transparent as our president's grasp on the English language. You want to change these Democrats? Try some positive reinforcement. Tell them if they start paying you some real respect, you'll promise to make Reverend Al go away.

Until then, enjoy the weather in Miami and try to be thankful that you didn't get stuck hanging out with the likes of Joe Leiberman. And come 2004, I'll see you at the voting booth.

When and where was history forgotten? What happened after the Civil War that placed the GOP behind the Party of the A$$ when it comes to the black vote?!

A lot of Blacks did vote for republicans until the 60's.

Then came LBJ. The Dems got credit for the Civil Rights Act even though a higher percentage of Repubs voted for it. But LBJ was prez so the D's get all the credit.

Plus, when LBJ signed his Great Society legislation he is purported to have said "I'll keep them niggers voting Democrat for the next 50 years." LBJ was a lot of (bad) things, but dumb wasn't one of them.

The group's leader, Kweisi Mfume, was outraged (because they didn't show up, not because his parents named him while smoking dope and playing Scrabble).

The really sad thing is that Kweisi Mfume's parents didn't name him Kweisi Mfume. He was born and elected to the US Congress (four times!) with the name Frizell Gray.

He changed his name to Kweisi Mfume after he left Congress.

There weren't any Southern Republicans to speak of until after the 1964 Civil Rights Act passed and lynchings were no more.

It was REPUBLICANS who were responsible for the 15th Amendment in the first place.

For that matter, it was a former Republican Governor, appointed Chief Justice of SCOTUS, who handed down Brown v. Board of Education.

I don't know if this is the most hate-filled article I've ever seen, but it does show world-class ignorance and unfocused hostility.

1986 to be exact...

Frizzell/Kwiesi was one of the most visible proponents.

What the heck is this dude's problem

I don't know if it's his only problem, but one problem is he's just unbelievably ignorant. Anyone who thinks Kweisi Mfume got that name at his christening, or that Republicans were the party of lynchings, is simply unqualified to write political commentary.

There sure as heck were Republicans in the South - they were the ones getting lynched!

I stand corrected...

Dims are the predominant political group who fights so hard to "keep the man down?"

Several reasons: firstly, the Dems are out in the black community paying lip-service to blacks, along with black Dems who are out there fanning the flames of hatred of anyone who would step outside of that plantation.

Liberals go out of their way to patronize blacks and continually pat them on the head...("There, there, we'll feel sorry for you. You're too dumb for anything else..."), so-called black leaders have taken paranoia and tin-foilism and made it into an art-form ("The big, bad, evil white man hates us, does everything to keep us down; any black man who follows those 'evil white devils'™ has sold his soul to the devil and will be damned to hell for all eternity...").

Now, finally, the black vote is taken for granted by the Dems, and largely ignored (but much less so now) by the GOP, so we have come full circle.

But things are changing. At a snail's pace, I'll admit, but they are changing.

My never-ending battle continues...

There were Southern Republicans. Condoleeza Rice grew up in a Republican family. Southern Republicans regularly sent delegates to the Republican convention. The problem was, those Southern Republicans were African American, and didn't get to vote because of Jim Crow laws.

The answer to your question, FRiend, is not hard.

Socialism happened to the DNC. That creeping crud known as Marxism replaced the blood of the Demo's, bringing with it the memory loss which allowed them to ignore their Confederate heritage.

For everyone else, I read the entire screed provided us by our trueblack FRiend. I notice that this shill's listed as a Gannett copy editor. Therefore, this will be spread throughout the land, via USAToday, the Army/Navy/Airforce Times, several heartland rags, and who knows how else.

They have received The Word...

Well that was an interesting spew.

Al Sharpton is in an interesting role. I think Democrats are going to have to negotiate with him. If he throws the black vote to any primary candidate, that candidate is likely to win the primary.

Either somebody negotiates with him prior to the primary or it's going to get interesting.

The real question is will Rev Al negotiate only for himself or for black people in general?

Whew! Glad I held my fire until I scrolled a bit.

You are 100% correct.

This article has all the components to unmask Democrats' true intentions toward blacks:

-Unmasked condescension towards them: Lisa tells blacks can't vote Republican not because they freely decided not to, but because the Democrat plantation owners and house slaves told them not to do so.

-Contempt for black achievers: His hatred towards Condi tells much how he wants blacks to succeed... NOT!!!

-Daredevil lying: As argued in previous posts, Lisa says how Republicans are evil and Democrats are good towards blacks, when historically the opposite has been true.

My 2 cents.

Did you catch Reginald Jones on C-SPAN2 this morning, speaking at the Conservative Student Conference put on by Young America's Foundation?

Powerful.

I'd love to see Mr. Jones take on Mr./Ms. Lisa.
