Deer worship (Ithaca barf alert)
ITHACA JOURNAL ^ | 7/21/03 | George Rhoads

Posted on 07/21/2003 4:47:56 AM PDT by Behind Liberal Lines

Edited on 05/07/2004 8:01:02 PM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

Deer are a boon and a benefit to my neighborhood. While city planners are busy destroying the beauty of our town, deer have moved in to beautify it. These handsome and harmless citizens should be declared sacred, like their cousins in India. Deer to not cause accidents -- people do. Deer are victims of the evil and ever burgeoning automobile population. Driven by reckless fanatics, cars are noisy, polluting killers of all manner of wildlife, including people.

This letter is so over the top, if it weren't Ithaca, I'd think it were satire.

Ithaca is the City of Evil.

Its probably satire. I don't think the Bambi Lovers want Bambi in their backyard.

Sorry, but any animal that can't realize that crossing the street during rush hour is a bad idea doesn't deserve praise.

I like deer a lot better than some people. If Ithaca was populated by deer it would be a much nicer place.

What are the odds that the letter's author, who wants to declare deer "sacred," supports abortion at will?

Yak! That might be the most disgusting thing I ever read. It needs more than a barf alert. Where in hell is the "woofing chunks" alert?

When I was in the USMC, we called it "bazooka barfing."

To bring in Nancy Reagan's profound advice, was there ever any drug on God's green Earth that this idiot said "No" to?

These handsome and harmless citizens...

Oh, so deer are citizens now. When can we expect them to start paying their fair share in taxes?

You ever been to Ithaca? Trust me when I assure you that deer would indeed make better citizens.

Actually, a large deer population will be really useful. After nut-jobs like this one crush our civilization and force us all to live in caves -- we can eat the deer to stay alive.

This has got to be the nuttiest thing I've ever read:

Certain petty home owners, instead of giving thanks to God for their privileged position, whine that deer eat their shrubbery. They should be glad to provide nourishment to these lovely creatures that display themselves in picturesque living tableaux on the lawns of our town.

The "living tableaux" will eat every piece of shrubbery down to the ground, dig up bulbs (they're especially fond of tulips), go through a vegetable garden like they're horde of locusts, and they haven't met a flower garden they didn't devour.

May the deer prosper and multiply in peace.

That they will. Happy healthy deer start throwing twins & triplets, rather than singles. When the herd starts roaming downtown Ithaca, like they do in downtown Princeton NJ, charging plate glass windows in rutting season, said people who are behind those plate glass windows (business owners, home owners) tend to get more than a little irked.

If this ijut was true to his fuzzy-minded roots, he'd want to introduce some natural predators into the environment: wolf and cougar. Now wouldn't THAT be fun?

I wonder if this idiot happens to drive one of those 'evil' cars...

Its probably satire. I don't think the Bambi Lovers want Bambi in their backyard.

Actually, a lot of the Ithaca whack jobs feed the deer in their back yards, putting out corn and salt licks.

Also, even if this is satire, the fact that the Ithaca Journal printed it as a straight opinion piece demonstrates that, in Ithaca, you can't tell satire from reality any more.
