DEVELOPING: SECRET SERVICE CONCERN AFTER LOS ANGELES TIMES COMIC DEPICTS 'BUSH ASSASSINATION'
Christ, gillis - do you STILL freeking lurk on FR? You probably know what I think of you, but you're the truthsayer in this.
I shot from the hip; I was wrong. Ramirez's piece was poignant, and it was RIGHT. In more ways than one. He was gigging his audience, too.
Deliciously ironic - don't you agree, jack?
And here I always thought is was Jesus!!! (silly me)
"If the cartoonist had ANY balls, he would have replaced Politics with Demorats."
Except, Democrats are not the only ones tryiong to kill Bush politically.
Look around in this forum.

Luis I see one variation or another of this sentiment expressed all too often on this forum and frankly, it's disturbing. The implication is that reasoned dissenters in
conservative ranks are no better than democrats who try to take Bush down by utilization of lies, frauds and other measures that aide and abet our nation's worst
enemies.
Surely you understand the difference between aiding and abetting the enemies of this nation, and reasoned dissent that is geared to urge the accepted head of
conservatism back toward the right, when variance is perceived.

Kill me with a bat, or kill me with a knife...I'm still dead.

Luis it is startling to watch you express this point of view. You seem to be advocating that once a man is selected to run on the top of the Repbulican ticket, no conservative can disagree with him until he is elected and serves out his eight years in office. Is that truly what you believe?
Did you learn nothing at all from the Clinton years?
Describing someone who expresses dessent as using a bat or a knife is a rather interesting tactic for a person who is supposed to know what the first ammendment says, and advocate support for it.
This is a conservative forum, so I'm not going to countenance someone coming here and pushing leftist tripe, but reasonable dessent within the ranks is healthy. It is nothing like what the democrats participate in all the time.
"You seem to be advocating that once a man is selected to run on the top of the Repbulican ticket, no conservative can disagree with him until he is elected and serves out his eight years in office."
Don't put words in my mouth, and then criticize me for something I did not say.
I said what I said, if you don't understand it, get help.
jack gillis was one of the few from the Left during the impeachment wars to come on Free Republic and have an honest debate. I disagree with the man, but I respect him for defending his views. He was a persistent cuss. ;-)
BTW, jack - Clinton is a perjurer. Period. Yeah, I know - "Bush lied". But Clinton lied under oath, and that signed, sealed & delivered the United States legal system for me.
The more money & influence you got, the more justice you can buy. Ask Chris Webber, Kobe Bryant, Bill & Hillary Clinton.
A personal question: Do you agree with the current Democrat campaign of "Reparations For Saddam"? :-)
It is just not funny or supportive to me for "W"
Also, if M. Ramirez is a conservative why would he not respond? Nothing to hide right? And I did see this on Drudge.
I don't find heaping derision upon those who deserve it out of place. However, I'm sure your condescension was intentional, as is Rush's incredibly subtle condescension [/sarcasm]. LOL back at you. Rush is a blowhard who has been treading water for years intellectually. Quoting Rush is right up there with a Rat quoting Ted Kennedy; their time is long past.
If you would take the time to actually read through this thread, you will see that my PRIMARY concern has been that this cartoon is in exteremely poor taste, regardless of the artist's intent, and that my SECONDARY concern was that so many folks here were posting about the "stupidity" of those with whom they disagreed.
Who said anything about what you had to say, other than in your last post to me? I have no intention of going through this whole thread of inane 'kill-the-cartoonist-who-said-to kill-the-President' tripe to find your 'sage' comments. In attacking me, you're defending the stupid, not just yourself, so defend them or don't.
RE: your primary concern, shucky-darn. So is Mel Tillis. Ban him, too. That most here have espoused a 'get the cartoonist fired/nuke the LA Times!' stance IS STUPID. 99% aren't commenting on the tastelessness of the cartoon but on the idea that 'Bush might get shot because of this,' which IS STUPID. If you want to tell me that those folks are intellectual giants and whiz kids and I missed the boat, well, good luck proving me wrong with most of what's on this thread. If you want to say my logic is pisspoor, when missing the point of a political cartoon is in fact something people who are not smart do, well, again, shucky-darn and slop the pigs, I'll go cry my eyes out in the chicken coop. Your problem with people calling each other stupid is that again, you'd like us all to get along, when in reality the stupid need to be informed of their deficiencies so they can better adapt to life in the face of them. Go play church league softball if you want happy-happy-joy-joy non-confrontational talk, FR is a political discussion forum.
I never said that Ramirez should be fired, or the L.A. Times should be shut down by the government. I prefer to let the free market take its revenge, and am anxiouysly awaiting the day that a West Coast version of the "Washington Times" is published in MY city.
Peachy. You hate the speech but defend his right to say it. Now stop defending the stupid and find some other nice windmill to tilt at, Don Rogote.
You DO need to get a life. :o)
I think Luis is quite unambiguous here.

I like to think that I'm a FR media expert. I shot from the hip on this issue, too. I think I was wrong.
I'm pretty sure that Ramirez is one of the good guys. He is subtle, and I REALLY admire subtlety. A lot.
Conservatives should be subtle sometimes, although watching Ann Coulter use the chain gun from the (100 lb) hip is very entertaining. ;-)
