I too think it's pro-Bush -- and anti-'politics'-- and if you look at Ramirez's other stuff it's really on the mark and pretty conservative.
But man, an image like this should not be printed, no-how.
To: The Wizard
there is no excuse for a mainstream paper to run this cartoon. period. You're right. As anti-bush as most of them are, there is no reason this should have slipped past the censors.
It's a brilliant, pro-Bush, anti-anti-War cartoon that gets to the crux of the matter of the attacks against Bush over the "16 words".
But, perhaps the message is too deep for the average boob who reads the LA Slimes to absorb. After all, it requires some knowledge of history, Vietnam, the generations-old anti-War anti-American Movement and the current state of the vicious people trying to turn Bush's magnificent victory in Iraq into his political demise through smear, innuendo and total lies. They are summarily executing him politically in the Public Square.
Get it?

(Conservatives, be CONFIDENT! [My new fightin' words!] WE WILL PREVAIL!)
Drudge is on now talking about it.
He seems to be laying it more on the LA Times rather than on the cartoonist.
Says he misses the "intellectual point".
Making the comparison to "What if it had been Hillary?"
I've sworn off Drudge's radio show in recent weeks but I think I'll give this one a listen.

Huh?
I wasn't being funny. This is Kim Phuc.

Hey, it's the truth.
To: Gritty
it is a depiction of the murder of the President Of the United States, and there is no excuse for running it.
The paper should appologize and the editor who allowed it should go with raines.

In the photograph, the bad guy gets shot. That is not the way the situation was portrayed back then, however.
We were supposed to feel sympathy for the poor "helpless" man being shot, and outrage at the brutality and inhumanity of the executioner. No matter what the reality was.
To: Miss Marple
I was reviewing the thread -- we seem to have some voices of reason and calm, perhaps yours -- some voices of abject frustration of how people could start ranting so about what is an obvious parallel -- I hope like mine and a few others -- and LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS of knee-jerk emotional reactions.
I understand your frustration with ramirez and I think it might not have been his smartest work (although maybe he wanted contraversy?)
I appreciate your thoughts on the thread. Thanks.

1) Gun

Actually, having thought more about it, this cartoon would be funnier if the gunman had "Democrats" on his back and he were holding a banana.
To: The Wizard
I sincerely respect your position on this matter. To be hyper vigilant in on day of really wacking stuff w/ the BBC is understandable.
I stand with you and our President is not in the precarious position as depicted.
FR has many super cynics and downright comfortably numb posters who our culture has conditioned as seen here.
Guilty by inference.

Here is the drill: LA Times will apologize profusely but the seed has already been planted. Much like the lawyer in court who makes statements he knows the court will have stricken on an objection. He made his point to the jury.True. There has been a line of examples where the liberal media has been planting assassination ideas into people's heads about Bush. From SNL to Kilborn, I believe it was, either him or Stewart.

so your opinion is the only right one.....everyone who doesn't agree with you is a raving maroon.....
Now I know why you understand the cartoon the way you do....
There is no excuse for this cartoon, none.
