That's not a man killing President Bush. That's POLITICS! It's a little tool political cartoonists have always used called SYMBOLISM. The message of this cartoon is, simply, POLITICS IS BAD - BUSH IS INNOCENT - BUT POLITICS WANTS TO KILL HIM DESPITE HIS GOOD NATURE. They're doing everything but strapping him to the cross, for God's sake. Learn what the cartoon says before you attack it! Forgive the huge size, but I think it needs said.

It's rather obscure. It could mean that "politics as usual" is being used to try and destroy the President, but the Secret Service may not appreciate any image like this being printed in a major newspaper. Lotsa nuts out there you know.

I am truly appalled that some in this august body can defend this and rationalize the killing of the President away.
I am proud to be a Freeper, but In my wildest dreams I never expected anyone here, except a bill clinotn clone, to defend this crap as political expression.......This is the picture of a murder, in this one it is the picture of the murder of the President, and this ass hole should be canned...there is NO justification, there is no sympathy, there is no excuse for this....none

Hatred, bitterness, revenge and nastiness is all they know how to do. They've been like that but getting worse.

"What are they NUTS!"
Being liberals, they are definately nuts. Worse yet the creator of that cartoon is openly urging closet assasins to action.

SO GET A GRIP! Jeeze, what a bunch of idiots. Given how many heads this has gone over on FR, you can safely assume that far more in LA looked at this picture the same incorrect way. I'm sure more than a few of them said 'Right on!' when they saw it. Regardless of the 'best intentions' of this cartoon, the practical effect on the average reader will be far different.

I REALLY regret the slightly demeaning tone of my first post.
I had NO IDEA we'd be 150 posts into this thread in, what, 20 minutes?
As Miss Marple pointed out, you don't have to be "stupid" not to understand the allusion, and the graphic power is quite overwhelming.

C.M.Kornbluth's 'Marching Morons' would be a bracing read for you.
'Moogs, would you buy it for a quarter'? ;^)

I got the cartoon from the moment I saw it. The fact that many do not is not because they are stupid, but because they were not adults during the Viet Nam war. Thank you Miss Marple .. I'm one of those who were not

How did you change the highlight? When you move your mouse over the picture how did you get it to say "Don't try this at home?"Code:
< img alt="Don't try this at home!" src="http://whatever.com/image/image.jpg">
When you mouse-over your image, the "Don't try this at home" message appears.
Mouse-over this pic:
Got it?

It's still not very bright! And we need bright, conservative people doing cartoons, not stupid ones, whether the cartoonist is truly bright or not!Man, I have no clue if this post makes sense or not but I'm not about to sit here and try to think if it did..........

Now THERE I disagree, or, at least, I don't think your generalization is always true.
It's not necessarily that cartoon the cartoon "needs an explanation," rather, it could be that it makes you "think it through," and that's a good thing.

Old enough...Again, how old are you? (Please be specific...)

That is because the Supreme Court watered down the Amendment by adding the 'Fire' and "fighting words" exceptions that some purists (like me and Hugo Black) still reject.
However, I don't really consider inciting a riot to be political speech. Nor is advocating assassination political speech because it is outside the political process in a stable Republic. But this is an editorial cartoon in a mainstream newspaper. It does not threaten the President and it probably intends to show him as a victim of politics.
It is clearly protected speech. Calls to shut down the newspaper for carrying it strike me as far more dangerous to American than the cartoon could ever be.
