So, I'm an enemy of the country? I don't think so. In fact, anyone who would suggest shutting down political speech is an enemy of this Republic. Shutting down newspapers is totalitarian. Suggesting it be done is un-American.
To: jack gillis
The cartoon is definitely pro-Bush and the cartoonist is Conservative
To: jack gillis
OK, jack, I'll bite. I understand the cartoon, and I don't think I misinterpreted it. I would say the majority did, because it hits you in the gut and only by discussing it and having the memory of the photo can you re-interpret it as sympathetic to Bush.
As far as Bush-haters, I don't think that they will say more than "Cool, Bush getting offed!"

Good explanation!
The key thing is --- who is the bad guy?
The one that has politics on his back!!!

So your saying because the majority of people are stupid that he should "dumb" himself down?
To: StupidQuestions
Dear Stupid:
Perhaps you and others have some fine points. But, depicting the death of a President is just not right.
I KNOW the executioner's shirt is labeled "Politics". All of us reading this thread know that. We can tell the underlying meaning if we stretch it....BUT, your average guy with a chip on his shoulder towards GW, of which there are many, could quite possibly read their own subliminal message into this.

If the cartoonist had ANY balls, he would have replaced Politics with Demorats.

I must admit I don't know the story behind the Vietnamese photo of the guy pointing the gun at the other one's head, although I have seen it before. Can anybody tell me what was going on? Did he actually kill him? Who were they? Thank you.
To: RonDog
Seriously, and sincerely .... are you satisfied with my suggestions elsewhere in the thread and those of a few other posters who saw it the same way?
To: b4its2late
now. I'm impressed, seniority or not. Gotta go, dinner with friends and some ss types who just came to the door.

The sketch appears to be a take-off of a Pulitzer prize winning photo that memorialized the Vietnam war for the 60s Generation. It attempts to make the point that partisan politics are more of a threat to Bush than guerilla war. Some of us didn't grow up in that era .. and don't find the humor in it

Ummmm, I guess you missed it, but the cartoonist nails it exactly as to what is going on. That is a pro-Bush cartoon(though I guess there is a slight possibility that it wasn't intended that way, if the cartoonist was really, really dumb).
To: breakem
TTFN. I'm sure we'll agree on ALOT of other things.....

Okay, our President has been made to appear very ugly and monkeyfaced
(note to lib cartoonists: monkeys are SMART) but how many cartoons have we seen of BJ Clinton that are comparable in their caricature? Very many. Did we object? No. Did we laugh? Yes. If the Secret Service is concerned about this CARTOON
(a form of FREE SPEECH as provided by the First Amendment) they're being silly.
Other than that, it may be a bit over my head as to how it may be interpreted. I see a "spoof" on a famous photo from the Vietnam war; on the General/shooter's shirt, I see the word POLITICS; in the background to the right I see the word IRAQ. So I deduce the cartoonist means the political atmosphere of the war in Iraq is becoming another Vietnam (quagmire) and it will be the "death" of Dubya's presidency.
While I don't agree with the author/cartoonist's point of view and don't think it's the least bit funny, I think he or she has the right to draw the garbage and the Los(t) Angeles Times has the right to print it. Wise Californians will use it as birdcage liner or a disposable pooper scooper, being certain to feature the cartoon face up in order to ensure whichever droppings reach their target.
