It's the whole "NO MEANS NO" brainwashing Gen X Y and Z have been receiving since we were in kindergarten. "NO MEANS NO" no matter what position you are in, or how you got yourself there.

Here's what I think happened: this girl went up to Kobe's bedroom in the hotel, like she said. She started having intimate contact with Kobe, they ended up in bed, and while they were in the middle of the act, the girl starts freaking out that she's only 19, Kobe isn't wearing protection, and she doesn't want to get pregnant. So she starts telling him to stop. But at that point, any man in that situation doesn't have a lot of concentration going on in his brain, and Kobe naturally wanted to complete the act, so maybe he restrained her a little.

Afterward, the girl was so upset, she ran to the police or whatever, knowing what she has been taught her whole life: "NO MEANS NO" even if you went up to a guy's room at night, even if you made out with him, even if you got in bed with him and starting doing stuff. "NO MEANS NO!!!"

At what point do we as a society come back to our senses and stop telling our girls that they can do all kinds of seductive things and be in all kinds of private, intimate situations with guys and if the guy starts making moves on her and she decides she doesn't like it all of a sudden, it's all the guy's fault and he needs to go to prison for life?

If he raped her, it's pretty bad. I've known "nice" guys in high school and college, who have gone to jail for rape. If she's nutz we'll find out (she seems to be a little squirley from description) at that point she'll get burned and pay her own price.

She sobered up while in the middle of zippidy-do-dah and realized she was supposed to be a "GOOD" girl and panicked. Especially got pissed off when she had a couple of hundreds between her teeth when she left the room from Kobe.

I just think the law is getting more and more unreasonable with regard to men and sexuality. Apparently, in CA now, even if a man is just about the complete the act, if the woman says "I changed my mind" he's supposed say goodbye or it's rape.

It's like Kobe sat down and said, "well, I'm young, rich, got the world by the tail, how can I screw it up?" Even if you're right and he didn't rape her, he did commit adultery. So if he had the character to keep his johnson in his pants, he wouldn't be in this postion in the first place. What an utter fool.

And a crybaby fool as well. He bawled like an 8 yr. old Little Leaguer after the Lakers get ousted by the Spurs in the playoffs a couple months ago (and so did teammate Derrick Fischer). Grown men don't cry when they lose. They either get ticked off or they keep their chin up and move on. Very revealing (lack of) character.

I don't feel sorry for him in the least. He dug his own grave, and now he'll have to lie in it.

Ya know, living in here Packerland, I remembered the former Packer Mark Chmura sexual assault case and that he was convicted in the press--and most of the community--before the trial, and the trial itself changed the minds of the press and the community. Chmura was acquitted. But then I remember another case, that of former Packer James Lofton. He was accused of taking a woman into a stairwell near a disco and forcing her to perform oral sex. It was a long trial, he had a good lawyer and he was acquitted. The cross examination of the victim in the case set the hallmark for brutal. But in that case, even after the verdict, the majority of people thought he was guilty--it was more of an OJ jury IMHO. It didn't matter, though. Lofton never played another down as a Packer, and even though he's in the Hall of Fame, mention his name around here and jaws will clench.

Ahhh...am I missing something here......they HAD A RELATIONSHIP??? I haven't heard that, I was under the impression they JUST met a few minutes before the ACT (whatever it was).

I don't know if she is a gold-digger and looking for publicity for whatever reason and he is just a horny BB player, or if he is a rapist and she an innocent. All I know is "YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW."

I am not an NBA fan either, and had never even heard of him until all this.

So I don't have the "nice guy image" to contend with. If O.J. taught us anything, it is that "nice guy T.V. personnas" can be complete B.S.

It is doubtful that any of us here know 1% of the evidence that will be presented at trial. Therefore, to take either side would be acting out of ignorance, IMHO.

If the physical evidence at the hospital shows that she was torn up inside, Kobe's going to jail. Otherwise he walks. His attorney at the 6:00pm news conference was emphatic in stating that there isn't sufficent physical evidence. But I'll tell you something, she (Kobe's attorney Pamela Mackey) looked nervous and so did his other attorney, and Kobe was scared #@$%less.

I have an open mind about whether Kobe is guilty or not...I'll wait till more evidence comes in. But from the Internet and talk radio today, I'm noticing something. Interestingly, a lot of men seem to assume that Kobe is guilty, while women are assuming he's innocent and that his accuser is a liar, a golddigger, or a slut. I find that interesting, because I would have expected it to be the other way around.

Well the general public didn't know about it. And I sure didn't know until they played the 911 tapes. As far as I know Kobe has no wife beating record. Of course he hasn't been married very long. But if evidence emerges like it did on OJ, the general public will turn on him just as fast as they did OJ. I don't watch any basketball because I don't like how all the players act, but Kobe seemed well behaved. If he raped her I hope he pays for it. But if this women is trying to use Kobe to set trust funds for her future kids, I hope they prosecute her.

I heard on one of the shows that she had just got off work, she worked the front desk. I don't know how accurate that was.
