WE'VE ALL BEEN HOSED BY THE N.O.W. GANG: Why I Feel Sorry for Kobe
Posted on 07/18/2003 6:47:40 PM PDT by Cinnamon Girl
It's the whole "NO MEANS NO" brainwashing Gen X Y and Z have been receiving since we were in kindergarten. "NO MEANS NO" no matter what position you are in, or how you got yourself there.
Here's what I think happened: this girl went up to Kobe's bedroom in the hotel, like she said. She started having intimate contact with Kobe, they ended up in bed, and while they were in the middle of the act, the girl starts freaking out that she's only 19, Kobe isn't wearing protection, and she doesn't want to get pregnant. So she starts telling him to stop. But at that point, any man in that situation doesn't have a lot of concentration going on in his brain, and Kobe naturally wanted to complete the act, so maybe he restrained her a little.
Afterward, the girl was so upset, she ran to the police or whatever, knowing what she has been taught her whole life: "NO MEANS NO" even if you went up to a guy's room at night, even if you made out with him, even if you got in bed with him and starting doing stuff. "NO MEANS NO!!!"
At what point do we as a society come back to our senses and stop telling our girls that they can do all kinds of seductive things and be in all kinds of private, intimate situations with guys and if the guy starts making moves on her and she decides she doesn't like it all of a sudden, it's all the guy's fault and he needs to go to prison for life?

Which is why I tend to believe her...

Yeah, but she hasn't put her hand on the Bible, yet.

So you're saying that there is a point in intimate contact where a woman no longer has the right to say no and put a stop to what's going on ?

We don't know how it came to be that she was there... That's true, that's why I was wondering earlier about whether she might have dropped off some food at his room before she left for the night. That would be quite reasonable considering he is a celebrity. Striper Sniper replied to me earlier saying that he heard on Hardball that food wasn't delivered to the room. So I don't know. It isn't a crime to want someone's autograph.

And a DA who says it wasn't and that he had enough evidence wherein he felt he could obtain a conviction...Utilizing this logic, we can simply discard the jury system. A DA's theories are nothing until a jury validates them.

So what... This case won't be won solely upon her testimony alone...
To: He Rides A White Horse
Well we can't though.. can we...

She may very well be a gold digger; we just don't know. But Kobe admitted to having sex with her (and therefore committing adultery), and he should've comprehended the possible consequences of doing so. .... Those possible consquences being: 1) divorce, and outrageous alimony payments; 2) messing up the life of his child; 3) Kissing his multi-million dollar endorsements goodbye; 4) Possible jail time. High profile athletes are targets, and if Kobe had the discipline to keep from cheating on his wife, he wouldn't be in this predicament.
To: marajade
Correct.
But, it can be lost solely on her testimony.

Well we can't though.. can we...No, we can't. Even in an era of screwball 'food lawsuits' and dumbed down OJ Simpson jurors, we can't.

If it was just her word... this case would have never been charged...

Me too, after a finals game, Magic came up behind and hugged Isaiah, the smile on the Piston guards face, was very revealing.....like a lover, not a friend or a competitor after a hard fought game no less.

I agree with every thing you have been saying. My only point is that there is a way to lose the case.
Remember OJ. Court rooms are a crap shoot.

At any rate, I suppose the moral of the story is be real careful about who you sleep with.....these types of incidents blow holes in liberal theories regarding 'casual sex' and 'free love'.
Nuthin's free, and there is nothing 'casual' about having sex.
The 'hottie' at the end of the bar might be that little claymore mine in your life.

Hey, it is not like I highlighted it or anything... Well I just figured I ought to, so you'd see what I was talking about.

Does the names Michael Irvin and Erik Williams ring a bell? People can lie, she might be a good one. And then again she may not be. Have you heard all the evidence yet?

Call me a prude, but I think this goes too far as well.
The real problem is of epidemic proportions: people are so uneducated about giving and receiving love that they will accept sex as a poor substitute. Sex as a fruit of and expression of love can be wonderful; sex as a substitute for love is deadly... as this incident has clearly shown.

Huh? This is about an allegation of rape... Not like she had a choice of who slept with...

True that.
I will look for you in future threads on this subject. Good night, my friend.
