Democrats should be held accountable!
Paperjam | Fri, 18 July, 2003 | Paperjam

The case can’t be clear enough that Saddam and Iraq as a whole were a serious threat to the entire region and an evil that had to be eradicated.

What is really upsetting is that Democrats are getting our guys in uniform KILLED! All this bitching about our President lying to the American public is high octane fuel to an unstable Iraq. In Saddam’s latest tape, he is clearly quoting our Democratic Congressmen. This quote coming from a Fox news article highlights it quite well, “The new tape thanked Iraqis for resisting the coalition’s occupation of Iraq, said the Americans and the British lied in intelligence reports to their own people and called on Iraqis to kick the Americans out of the country.”

Democrats should be held accountable for the number of Americans killed by resistance fighters encouraged by the rhetoric here at home. They (Democrats) are clearly attempting to gain political ground using the blood of our American solders who by the way are the son’s and daughters of the constituents they purport to represent! They are encouraging, almost daring a jihad be launched against out troops to embarrass our President for the “atrocity” of liberating Iraq, to call for too quick an end of our presence there before we can finish cleaning house, and to drag our troops home in what can only be defined as a defeat if we concede. They are hell bent on setting the stage for another Viet Nam and are too willing to say or do anything to ensure it happens. ONLY FOR POLITICAL GAIN!

It’s so wonderful that we have such an open society that we can publicly criticize our political officials. But, the public damage inflicted reaches so much farther than U.S. television sets. Our Democratic Presidential hopefuls have been acting like a bunch of fleas leaping to the latest stink that wafts by. They hold no regard to the fact that other countries are watching and using what’s said to wedge their own public support against us.

Like it or not we are a global society and what happens in our house affects the entire world. It’s high time that Democrats face up to the fact that their stinging criticism fuels discontent and encourages fanatical régimes to resist our efforts to improve life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness throughout the world. Their complete rejection of this President makes the world so much more difficult for so many.

A perfect example of the above statement is President Bush’s recent trip to Africa. Instead of marking a milestone of achievement in support for the countries of Africa and lauding his efforts to stem the tide of a frightful disease, reduce hunger, and highlight the terrible practice of slavery which still occurs today, Democrats decided to embark on a smear campaign to erase it from the news altogether. This almost ensures that nothing of real substance will occur there and condemns Africans once again to the back burner. Even the leader of the Congressional Black Caucus rejected its significance. It doesn’t matter that the trip highlighted causes that are typically espoused by Democrats as Democratic causes. It doesn’t matter that the economies of these countries have a global impact and that fluctuations in their economies cause fluctuations around the world. And it doesn’t matter that the rest of the world will now feel less inclined to provide any assistance what so ever because our Democratic leaders are reluctant to even acknowledge those in such abject poverty. A billion dollars of our money are now at risk of going to waste because of Democratic hatred.

Our Democratic leaders have embarked on a path of total destruction for the sole purpose of political gain and have no concern or regard for any of the lives they endanger while on the offensive.

"Talk about an irresponsible statement" If we really talked about irresponsible statements, then you wouldn't have enough space on this website for it, especially those coming out of the New York Times, LA Times, etc...Bunch of birds chirping outside the window, while inside the President is trying to do his damnest to keep our country safe! If it were me, I'd grab a bee-bee gun and go shut those birds up!

Sounds like you think people should be executed for criticizing the government. Seig Heil.

Cute strawman you have there (if he only had a brain). The point was not that politicians shouldn't criticize the government, the point was that smearing our leaders and stating lies or falsehoods simply for personal future gain should be done carefully... this partisan garbage should be pointed out and loathed when it harms our country internationally or increases direct danger to American citizens.

Case in point, all the harping about Bush "lied" when he said Iraq posed an "imminent threat" to America. It gives ammunition to our enemies and is a LIE... Bush stated clearly that there was no evidence that Iraq posed an imminent threat but that terrorism no longer allows countries to wait until an imminent threat is visible. The Dem's love saying this, however, because it makes a great sound bite for THEM...and to hell with the fact that the foreign press and violent groups are quoting such "American officials" with reverence.

If Freedom of Speech is causing American solidiers to die (author's thesis), is it not serious enough to warrant curtailing that speech?

Or is the best approach hope to secure votes and political leverage?

The author's thesis is that D's words are leading to the death of soldiers. Did you take his meaning as hyperbole?

I complained yesterday that politics and Bush bashing is one thing....but we have troops in harms way and a line has been crossed.

That is the nature of politics and particularly a two party system.

Soldiers are dying, that is a fact. The only way to end that fate is to declare victory and bring the boys home. Accusing Democrats of aiding the enemy may be worth some political advantage, but it does nothing to help the troops in the field.

The poster can't answer for himself?

It was no strawman. I said it sounded a certain way. It did.

acCOUNTable???

Democruds have been throwing other people's money at problems for so long . . . 100 billion here, 100 billion there--pretty soon it adds up to real money--

anyway--they've been doing it for SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LONG,

I doubt they could count even if they used their toes, too. Figures have just lost all meaning amongst their synapses--or what might be construed as synapses in their reality challenged skulls.

As usual, it's not the freedom but the irresponsible use of it that is the problem.

It's not about freedom, it's about accountability. They are free to say what they say but if it gets people killed they should face the consequences.

JohnGalt is a libertarian. Freedom, to a libertarian, means freedom from consequences. Consequences cramp their style.

Is your idea of accountibility 'voting' or the gallows as Wil H suggested?

Or is this thread just hyperbole and an opportunity to express our feelings about how naughty and awful those Ds are?

In Saddam’s latest tape, he is clearly quoting our Democratic Congressmen.

Saddams assets are frozen. Someone is funding his terrorists. I wouldn't be suprised to find out it's the same Communist and terrorist groups that funded the left wing protestors against Bush before the war.

The guy taking Rush's place this week has a friend in Iraq. He said that very same thing.
Iraqi's get television, and they hear the democrats attacking our leader, screaming about how many Americans are being killed, and how we're losing the war.
Iraqi's have lived in fear of Saddam so long, they do what they're told. With the left wing propagana campain against Bush and Al Jeera joining them, the Iraqi's feel it's the U.S. military dead or they'll be dead at the hands of Saddam. The Democrats ARE responsible for American deaths. They're aiding Saddam every time they open their mouths - and don't tell me they don't know it! They' seem to care more about themselves than any soldier in Iraq. The more who die, the better it is for their campains in 2004.

I agree with you whole heartedly. The only thing the Dems value is power. They will lie, cheat, steal, or cause the destruction of anyone and anything that gets into their way, and that includes this country. If they have to give aid and comfort to our enemies to do it, so be it. The Dems have hated our military for decades. What do they care if these young men are killed. The more the merrier for their political purposes. If the U.S. is defeated, Bravo!! The majority of the extremist groups which compose the Dem Party today would love a US defeat and humiliation. To them America is only great when she has her tail between her legs and is begging for mercy for past sins real and imagined. Yes, this is a free country and they have the right to be heard, but only a fool would believe their lies. The Dems lie and are allowed to get away with it. They are not required to show proof of any allegations made by them, and their willing accomplices in the Media and the Press are more than happy to give them as much coverage as they need. If it were a Republican making these charges against a Dem President, they would be grilled about their proof. No one even asks the Dems. You would have to be a complete fool not to see that the Dems are playing politics even at the cost of American G.I.'s lives. Their motto is "Win at all costs." If the cost is in American lives, Oh, well. The end justifies the means, and the truth is whatever you want it to be.

And I should believe the Dems because..............?

According to our Constitution, A man is innocent until proven guilty. The Demnocrats should be held to proving their statements, as the Republicans did with Clinton. The stain proved he lied to the American people and the U.S. court. There was no question.
If they can't back up their statements with fact, they should at least be charged with slander. Those who call him a liar need to prove it. It's the law that controls our society. We should hold them to it.

JG, I think that paperjam is right in speaking up about the DemoRat's ability to say what they want and get away with it. Paperjam may have been passionate in using some words, but I believe the point is..... whenever the Republicans/conservatives say anything that the liberals/DemoRats don't like they get up on their stage and demand that Republicans/conservatives be quite, apologize, step-down, etc. Remember Trent Lott.

I believe that paperjam has a valid point in that the DemoRats need to be made aware of how their words and actions are affecting their country and their military. And, all for what? To win the next election.

Paperjam......thank you for serving our country and the sacrifices you make.

Very true. In fact there have been at least a couple of articles by liberal writers (posted somewhere here on FR) who have openly admitted this.
