Some good Blogs from Iraq:
*A Brigade Commander's perspective of the situation in Baghdad as of July 14th
The case against the press, the Democratic Party and, in particular, Bill and Hillary Clinton - who, by aligning themselves with nations who opposed our war in Iraq and who do not share our Constitution or values, are weakening America on the world stage and undermining the sitting President, endangering our troops, giving aid and comfort to our enemies, and kissing off the longsuffering Iraqi people for partisan power's sake:

...During the week of July 10 - July 16, they also trained police, set up courts, oversaw the NGO workers, assisted in over 150 building projects....etc.!
It is difficult, dangerous work. Our troops are doing an awesome job. We should be celebrating their daily victories and cheering them on through the rough days. They deserve better from our press.

Let's do the math here. Out of 148,000 troops we have 8 killed in a week. At the height of Vietnam we had nearly 4 times the number of troops and the casualty rate was 3-4 times greater than the 30 KIA/week that we'd get if we extrapolate the present proportion of losses in Iraq. But the numbers ultimately don't matter as much as the public perception, and it's not solely the media's fault: Big kill ratios certainly didn't translate into victory in Korea or Vietnam.
It also matters immensely that we seize absolute control of all Iraq, leaving no sizeable havens for hostile forces. Aside from getting Saddam and his sons (assuming they're still out there), that'll be the true measure of progress, not body counts. If substantial pockets of territory remain open for the enemy to operate within, chances are the killing of our soldiers will drag on and on.

Some three decades ago or more, Hal Holbrook began his amazing portrayal of Samuel Clemens in "Mark Twain! Tonight!" I've been fortunate enough to have seen it four times. Don't miss it if it comes your way.
It also ran on TV right around 1969 or '70 and I taped it (audio only). In one act of the monologue, Holbrook drew on Twain to comment on the Vietnam War, still slogging onward at the time.
His comment via Mr. Twain was (after a suitable prelude),
"Even though the war be wrong, we are in it! We must fight it out. We cannot retire without dishonor!" Twain then comments on his own quote, "Why, not even a burglar could have said that better."
Let us not forget who the burglars are this time. Never, ever forget who and what mass-murdered so many people on September 11, 2001.

All of this is interesting to read but please, please - let's not get into the body count business.
That's far too sensitive a subject and ghostly way of claiming victory that the media a long time ago used to stir up folks like ANSWER except back then they went under the name SDS (Students for a Democratic Society). They were rarely students, there was nothing democratic about them unless you're talking about Daschale (we used to claim the D stood for Dumba##) and the S had an even worse definition.
Owwww already too many ghosts!

EXCELLENT COLLECTION AND POST!
You are exactly right with your title. The media, instead of reporting our successes as headlines, is reporting in a way, to make it sounds, as if we were "losing the peace".
They are trying to get people at home fed up, to turn Iraq into another Vietnam, where people demand we pull the troops out.
It is shameful and treasonous how they put petty and vicious politics above our national security.

In a related story, the police chiefs from Los Angeles and Washington DC are visiting Iraq to learn how they can reduce their murder rates.

Iraqi children shake hands with a U.S. soldier on patrol along a street in Baghdad. Security concerns mean some 9,000 troops from the U.S .Army's 3rd Infantry Division will remain in Iraq indefinitely.

Thanks for putting this into perspective. The constant bad news from the Dems and the media makes even a hardcore conservative like myself doubtful at times--so you know how it must affect your average fence straddling Joe Schmoe. I'm going to start listening to you and Rush more often. He's a good source when I need a pick me up. Better stay away from doom and gloom Savage for a while.
