Do NOT post ads, offers, solicitations or links to pages for the purpose of selling or offering merchandise, t-shirts, bumperstickers, coffee mugs, pens, pins, stamps, books, mousepads, stocks, bonds, gold, guns, etc., etc., etc.
FR was not intended as a commercial site or for merchandising your products. Do in on eBay or elsewhere.
Thank you.

It is utterly TOO FUNNY that you post THAT particular fundraiser blurb on THIS thread... LOL!

I think your criteria are quite sensible.
Don't know if it would help or not . . . but how about whatever committee of your approved old timers &/or you if you want to bother--vetting whatever few you cared to consider and putting them at a page reached through FR's home page. Just keep them out of the threads entirely except for a line or 2 invitation to check that page for a new entry.

How about adding that caveat to the "please no profanity etc." warning that comes up when somebody posts. The profanity warning, I am well aware, is honored much more in the breach than in the observance.
To: Jim Robinson
Do not advertise, or attempt to sell or solicit. It seems simple enough to me.

Thanks. I think you are likely right...if allowed, this place would be overrun with stuff.
Have a good evening.

It is non profit... Jim makes nothing off someone trying to sell something... Unless Jim is making a profit, I dont see how he could be held liable... (dont get me into RIAA lawsuits however)

How about bloggers putting their web addresses in tag lines? Ban those too, I say. Maybe on the profile page, but not in a post or tag line.

I believe everyone on FR could ask a question to only be answered on private FR email only.......
Not on a FR Reply Post to be seen by all unsolicitated.......
Obviously there are many free Web Image and Audio storage sites and free HTML Help WebSites that benefit all on FR but do do solicite business ads for profit........
I know that I myself have benefitted from some of those free Web Storage services after I had trouble with two that would not post and securely keep my posted images in view of all that read the threads........
Such as Tripod stored images can disappear and leave an annoying "RED-X BOX" where you posted your image, yet Angelfire stored images work just "peachy", don't they Slick?
(sorry, I just could not help myself)
I also found by using free URL "downsizers" like TinyURL.Com helps with many Audio URLs that seem hard to get to work from several FreeSource WebSites; after using them, I seem to have a quicker, shorter, bulletproof Audio URL.
One example I just made up:
http://tinyurl.com/gxff (You may have heard it before)
This FR "Post Page":
http://tinyurl.com/gxig Purty ol' "peachy"!
It works wonders on those BellLabs "Text-to-Speech" page long URLs -
Cuts all URLs down to just 23 characters, even from 500 characters down to 23........
BONUS:
You only need to remember the last 4 characters and/or note them in your notebooks or WebPage storage with the .jpg, .gif or .mid, .wav, .au File Name
Gotta ride:
http://tinyurl.com/gxjc (Was 51 characters, now is only 23!)

It is non profit... Jim makes nothing off someone trying to sell something... Unless Jim is making a profit, I dont see how he could be held liable... I think the argument is more along the lines that if Jim were to allow "ads" from say the Republican Hat Club, or t-shirts from "Concerned Women for America", or the "Book of the Month" from the Heritage Foundation, that there would be a linkage. That FR was a tool or a shill for a select cause, even if that cause is non-profit.
Finally, a blanket "no solicitation" clause is much easier to administer. No group can claim they are being treated different from another group.

Uh oh.
'Profanity' is classified as the really, really really bad words, right?
(I sort of favor the word "damn"...Is that a yes or no?)

You are right...I was just debating the "Jim held liable" which I do not think he would regardless of how many hits came from FR.
