[history]
Simon was leaning over the railing of the Pirates dugout between the sixth and seventh innings when the customary sausage race was being contested, with four people in costumes running around the infield warning track. When the Italian sausage (19-year-old Mandy Block) passed Simon, he struck her with a bat, knocking her and the hot dog (a 19-year-old woman) down. The women suffered a few scrapes.

Having grown up in Milwaukee, all I can say is that Simon is lucky to be alive.
Now, if he'd hammered the bratwurst instead of the Italian sausage, there would have been a riot of biblical proportions. One does not assault brats and beer in Milwaukee!

Babe Ruth was hardly a model citizen, showing up drunk at the ballpark, among other sad actions.
Turn off the constant bold mega-fonts and shouting, it makes you look like an idiot.

Any chance of a link to the video, please? I don't get cable.
To: Slings and Arrows
Sorry, I looked for it earlier but couldn't find it. I'll try again.

Much obliged.

Babe Ruth must be turning over in his grave. That reminds me of an old story where two sports reporters were on train and Babe, clearly intoxicated, came running through their boxcar stark naked. A minute later another naked lady, who also had been drinking came yelling through the boxcar waving a knife, chasing after Babe. The one reporter turned to the other and said, "Its a shame we did'nt see that", obviously referring to the fact that the industry had a self imposed censorship.

I was going to go with the more direct "Didn't his mother tell him not to beat his meat?", but good show nonetheless.

If he had used his bat against a cheerleader we wouldn't think it was funny.
I would.

This is the typical behavior of ill-mannered, immature, and irresponsible athletes! Just so I have this straight: Simon violated the solemnity and integrity of the game by interfering with a sausage race? Lighten up, Francis.

Speaking of Aggies, swords, SMU cheerleaders, and the Rice mob...

If he had used his bat against a cheerleader we wouldn't think it was funny. Depends...is he beating her, or tapping her huge foam head?

Let the record show that I have never attacked an Aggie, an SMU cheerleader or a member of the MOB with a sword.

No, he acted like a retard by smacking somebody from behind who wasn't expecting it with a baseball bat. Might have been funny if he'd taken the time to get the mascot in on it, instead it was boneheaded and potentially dangerous.

Either would work for me, but the "huge foam head" part cracks me up.

It was hysterical!
Obviously, the guy was just trying to have a little bit of fun with the mascot. He did it in a stupid, but not malicious, way.
But sportswriters and sportscasters are the most sanctimonious blowhards this side of the NY Times editorial board. From their hysterics you would have swore he killed the girl's grandmother and raped her dog.
I swear, I could watch that video all day. The only thing missing is a couple of midgets.
