I'll give it a spin through the ol' liberalizer:

"Dyin' ain't much of a livin', boy."

"Hurting others isn't very nice, and isn't an approved occupational category, young oppressor!"

"Are you gonna pull those pistols or whistle Dixie?"

"Are you considering unlawfully wielding childkilling high-caliber handguns, or are you just going to musically recount the racist history of the oppressive Southern culture that is rightfully buried?"

"Buzzards gotta eat...same as worms."

"The food chain is not hierarchical."

"When things look bad, and it looks like you're not gonna make it, then you gotta get mean. I mean plumb mad dog mean. Cause if you lose your head and you give up, then you neither live nor win, that's just the way it is."

"When things look bad, give up, and rely on government. It's there to help you."

Ay, there's the rub: defining 'service to America.'

Nothing in service to America is a waste of time.

Thanks for your service and special thanks to your father as well.

You perhaps noticed I asked the posting party whether he had any combat experience. His answer was no, he had not served. Yet he was comfortable to use the "waste of time" quote from his father, who obviously objected to serving.

While not original to me, one of my favorite comments (a question actually) is: " Where would we be without intelligent warriors to defend us?" I believe the answer is self-evident to those who choose to live in our free society AND value it.

Hate to dive in here, but you are both right. IMHO, WWS was a conservative movie that celebrated conservative values-love for country, fighting for freedom, bravery, etc...

Burkeman1 is right that we were bamboozled into WWI by Wilson. He was the first liberal president to inflict serious damage on this nation. Washington warned us not to get involved in the European wars. Left to their own devices, the Europeans eventually would have bled themselves out in WWI. Our boys did not have the proper equipment in most instances and were slaughtered. We did manage to save Paris (in retrospect maybe we shouldn't have).

In WWII, the same thing would have happened. The Nazis and the Commies would have continued to smash each other until there was nothing left-which is a good thing. IMHO, our involvement should have been left to providing air cover to England at most. Some would have a knee jerk reaction saying that we helped to end the holocaust. While a nice thought, I don't think thats the case. FDR couldn't have cared less-in fact he turned a boat load of escaping Jews back to Germany early on in the war. Second, Stalin wound up killing just as many Jews as Hitler if not more. He is not villified for it in the history books because liberals don't want to say anything bad about communism which is just as evil, if not more so, than fascism.

"Follow Me Boys" (Fred MacMurray plays a Boy Scout leader, and the movie tells how he influences several generations of young men. I love the reunion parade at the end. Also in the movie were Vera Miles and Kurt Russell)

While not a fan of horror movies, my wife loves them. I saw one the other day that was surprisingly pro-Christian. "Frailty" with Matthew McHougnehy (I probably butchered his last name) Bill Paxton, and Powers Boothe. It got around a 7.5 at IMDB.

Sgt. York gets my vote for all-time best conservative movie. Sure, it's not as dynamic and exciting as some of the more contemporary entries but it certainly portrays the best of conservative values (in my humble opinion).

The Ronald Reagan Awards for Cinematic Excellence, will be held

They should call the statuettes "Ronnies."

My pick would be Conan The Barbarian. Watch it with the knowledge that Milius is a conservative. The villain, Thulsa Doom, is a tyrant who acts under the guise of new age spirituality. His followers are a parody of 'flower-power' hippies who indulge in orgies and homosexual acts. There's also the notion of the mob as bad and the individual as good (although Conan gets help along his journey, ultimately he must face Doom alone), with the individual triumphant.

Prior to America's entry into the war, what did Hitler have that could hit the United States? The Bismarck was gone and the High Seas Fleet was negligible.
