MSNBC fires Savage after anti-gay remarks

NEW YORK - MSNBC on Monday fired Michael Savage for anti-gay comments.

The popular radio talk show host who did a weekend TV show for the cable channel referred to an unidentified caller to his show Saturday as a "sodomite" and said he should "get AIDS and die."

No, I'm a family man that thinks sodomites, and other responsible homosexuals, and yes, even illegal aliens should be brought into the party. More votes, and yes it will portray us as the caring compassionate conservatives we truly are. Not some bottom feeders. Know what I mean rockfish?

If it did warrant the response, why was he permitted to finish out the show? Why not pull him from the air and pad out with filler news or a rerun?

The issue isn't Mr. Watson's comments, but Mr. Weiner's. Are you advocating for a Constitutional admendment for the equality of all consequences to all outrages? If so, then good luck, and may the chains of your ideology rest lightly upon you.

You and I seem to be the only two voices here, in support of Savage.

Count me in. Savage's remarks are no more extreme than those of a host of other talk show hosts who still retain their jobs. One misstep should not warrant immediate dismissal. The difference is that Savage was targetted by GLAAD and other similar groups before he even got on the air in March. It was only a matter of time before some pretext could be found to get rid of him. He wasn't the first and won't be the last victim of political correctness. I guess only Archie Bunker, the lovable bigot, can survive the new reality.

I'm asking for some equal response from people who are ripping into Michael Savage (and I'm not a big fan of his, I listen sometimes in my car, partly because my other talk choices at that hour are Alan Colmes and leftist Pacifica).

It seems that some of the posters on this thread are far too personal in their dislike of Mr. Savage. That is their own concern but it betrays the strength of their argument.

If they don't get outraged at other outrageous comments that are made then they are hypocrites.

I've said that Michael was right to apologize for the comment especially since it got such wide exposure. Larry King used to hang up on conservatives and tell them they were "dumb". I'd still like to hear an apology from Larry but I won't hold my breath. Michael's crime was that he lashed out against a prank caller of a protected class.

Political correctness has won. The thought police have won.

Someone else will pick up his show. He's too controversial not to be on T.V.

The DNC could do an animated version of his show and post it on their website. Michael's on-air persona is a pretty good fit for the conservative boogeyman stereotype the leftoids trot out at every opportunity.

The best you can say about Savage is he is grossly unprofessional to be baited and yet not reign in his worst instincts.A hothead can't change his stripes, or even think a nanosecond longer to imagine how callous and mean spirited his words would sound to a new listener.

Nothing I've said should have provoked such a hostile response from you. I haven't made any personal attacks in regards to your politics or rights to free speech.
