"People change"? An Islamic "New Man" so to speak? Thanks. You have just confirmed for me that this operation is totally insane.

"Perpetual war? And I sadly agree. We will be in Iraq for decades." That's why Pakistani, Iranian, and North Korean nukes are critical to the equation.

Is the writer willing to execute children? How about pregnant women? Invalids? This is offensive.

Yes, People Change.
We, the citizen's, have to contribute to the war against terrorism. If we don't, our military has fought in vain. By helping build up the communities, we take away the means of terroristic recruitment.
Our military can end the regimes of today with military might. But, then, we must step up and finish the job. We need to contribute to feed, clothe and educate the citizens of these countries; otherwise, the terrorist will come back and recruit.
Even President Bush recognized this. In his State of the Union address, he said that America will help the oppressed people "secure their country, rebuild their society and educate all their children-boys and girls."
Why does this responsibility fall to us? Because of what the regimes have been doing to them. And unless we step up and aggressively, collectively contribute to the cause....it will only be a matter of time before the next 9/11.
9/11 made this cause both of our destinies, the people oppressed by regimes and the people of the US are bound together. We must win together. In a way we have become related by blood. Their freedom and our homeland security have been watered by the blood of those willing. It is no coincidence the name of the coalition is The Coalition Of The Willing. It is costing us the lives of our children that is a mighty bond.

Read the Bush Doctrine.
Until there is no terrorist threat to any American -- and/or to any who stand with US -- anywhere on Earth.
Until being American -- and/or to any who stand with US -- is no longer punishable, by some, by summary execution.
That level of safety, no matter how long it takes to achieve, will be achieved -- and will be called Victory.

That is pure utopian crap and the most unconservative thing imaginable. Why not wage a war against crime? Oh- we are. That is not an acceptable victory defintion as it is totally insane and WILL NEVER HAPPEN as long as humans aint perfect.

It will take a long time and more 9-11s before we come to grips with the enemy in a way that will produce results.

The war turns when nobody wants to sign up for "American-hating terrorist" on career day in Middle Eastern high schools. The war ends when nobody is willing to work the booth. How do we get there?
- When our enemies meet ugly, unproductive deaths. All the pain and no 72 virgins. Good examples are the AlQueda big shots who were blown up, one at a meeting in an Afghan hotel the other riding in a car in Jordan
- When the ones not killed spend years languishing in places like Gitmo with nothing to show for their suffering.
- When countries tell their Inmans (sp?) to stop preaching anti-American rhetoric from their bully pulpits.
- When Arab youth wake up to the fact that Bin Laden and his ilk are always involved (like the chicken in the ham & eggs breakfast) but never committed (like the pig).
- When a respected voice that speaks on behalf of "official" Islam arises and forbids killing of innocents.

I like games. You in the mood for a game? Why not, look at the time, where do you have to go?
Name of the game...."Name these Men"
Here is the description...do you know their claim to fame?
56 in all...description of men and fate were:
Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists. Eleven were merchants, nine were farmers and large plantation owners; men of means, well educated.
One saw his ships swept from the seas. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts, and died in rags.
One was so hounded that he was forced to move his family almost constantly. His service was without pay, and his family was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him, and poverty was his reward.
Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of 8 others.
Another noted that his home was taken over for a headquarters. His home was destroyed, and he died bankrupt.
Another had his home and properties destroyed. His wife jailed. She died within a few months.
Another was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying. Their 13 children fled for their lives. His fields and his gristmill were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his children vanished. A few weeks later he died from exhaustion and a broken heart.
Others of this group suffered similar fates.
What were their claim to fame? Their dream was pure utopia. Do you know who these mentioned abover were? What did they shed their blood for? What did they sacrifice their lives and family for?

Not one of those men believed in Utopia at all. And the Constitution our founders created is based on the fact that men are flawed and sinful at heart and sought to counter the basic evil instincts of man. Way off base.
To: Burkeman1
Yeah, maybe we should just let the Islamists run free and take over Iraq with the world's second largest supply of oil. Look what they accomplished from Afghanistan they could do a lot better with Iraq. I suppose you'd prefer to deal with them at home, at work, at airports and bus stations, etc. instead of at their base of operations.
They're not going away. Why turn your back on them?

I'm impressed. Didn't realize you would know the men I was referring too.
But I differ with you greatly if you think immigrating people from a "regime" seeking freedom is not seeking a utopia.
Bush's seeking an end to terrorism is the same type of quest in my mind. Since the terrorism has been imbedded further than the general public realizes....of course it is confusing for people to follow.
It is after midnight here. So I may be off by the time you respond, if at all. But, I'm pleased you followed my reference.

"Victory is NOT defined by "Utopia!"
"Victory" is NOW defined by the Lack of "Islam" in Civilized Culture.
NO "Religion" has EVER accepted the Murder of Innocents & the Suicide of it's Adherents as a "Measure of the Faith of it's adherents!
BY IT'S OWN CRITERIA, "ISLAM" is NO LONGER a "Faith" that ANY Civilized Culture could accept.
"Islam" MUST BE regarded as a viscious cult incapable of fostering Civilized Behavior by Humans.
"Islam" needs to be "Driven Underground,"--like "Thuggee"--& Forevermore regarded as an "assasination Cult," reviled by all civilized people, & it's adherents hunted & repulsed by ANYONE who values Human Life!!
NO "Belief System" which Rejects the inherent value of Human Life can POSSIBLE REPRESENT ANY "Human Life!"
If "Islam" condones "Suicide," of the Taking of ANY Human Life (as it's adherents purport), then "ISLAM" is antithetical to Human survival!
To Date, "Islam" has NOT demonstrated that it is a "Life-Affirming" Religion!!

I would also add that it will end when we stop genuflecting before Islam to make ourselves look caring and compassionate and realize that anything the enemy is willing to die for is a weakness that needs to be exploited. George Patton would've understood that. Put out the word that they will not only be shot, but that all American bullets are dipped in lard, and release photos of the dipping process. And announce that any attack on Americans anywhere will result in the immediate bombardment of Mecca with pig fat, with Osama bin Laden to thank for it.
Every time I see some liberal whine about how cruel a cowboy Bush is, I just snort, "You'd better thank God he's president instead of me. My only complaint about him is that he's too PC and not cold-blooded enough."
