Hey, HJ!
Good to see you, pard!
Maybe some have seen illegals with enough money to fly or to pay someone to smuggle them in by air, but I've seen hundreds cross the border and I've yet to see one who appeared to have enough money to buy a taco, much less an airline ticket.
As far as their future employers paying for their ticket, what employer is going to invest that much money in an illegal he's never seen?
To: HiJinx
Yes, they know it. We find all sorts of documentation, to include matriculas consulares. I guess that shows how valuable those cards really are.

I would be so frustrated I'd leave and never look back. I'm pissed as hell about it from here. If I had to watch it happening every night I couldn't take it. You talk about getting one in five, but that's just where you can see them.
One of you mentioned how many the INS catches per year. Do you remember that number? It would be helpful to contrast with the one in five or ten figure.

Got any clue how long it takes to train a Border Patrol agent? Or how long it takes for him or her to learn the real ropes on the job?

The relocation of agents and decision on a physical barrier adds to the strain agents on the southwestern border are experiencing as they try to prevent the flow of
illegal immigrants.

JackelopeBreeder has discovered what he thinks is a travel route for more affluent illegals. The poor ones, like the ones you see, come up along the river. The ones with money are crossing at the Coronado National Monument and traveling along the higher ridges and into the canyons leading down to the state highway that runs through Sierra Vista.
They fly from the Yucatan to Guadalajara, then take a bus or private vehicle to the border towns.

Got any clue how long it takes to train a Border Patrol agent? It seems that the agents I know have gone back east for about a six month training? I know that does not include on the job training, and of course learning the ropes.
But I think it is good that positions were expanded. They can hardly hold a gun to somebody's head and make them stay down south. They also can't snap their fingers and have a fully trained agent appear to fill the now vacated position.

"How did those illlegals get a ticket to fly on the airlines and board, if they are illegal?"
They use the Mexican matricular card. The House of Representatives has been having a hearing this week on Mexican IDs.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/936316/posts The last paragraph on that page will explain that the Mexican IDs can be used to board airplanes. Homeland Security, airport security, congress, the presidente and the FBI are all aware. The only people that are unaware are the American passengers who fly.

There you go. It helps to ask questions. Mexico now sets our foreign and domestic policy. Just in time for homeland defense, Mexico comes up with it's own ID. I'm sure that was just coincidence. And I'm sure our officials knew nothing about it. You know damned well there were back door communications on this.

I have a big stack of tickets sitting here on my desk. People are flying into Hermosillo from all over Mexico before taking the short taxi or bus ride to the border. A lot of these people are not escaping off the bean farm.
I constantly find backpacks full of very high quality clothing and cosmetics. One of my daughter's friends found a bag full of very fancy jewelry which turned out to be genuine -- found a block from my house and some senora is still mourning that loss.

It's a defacto amnesty, be assured of that. You knew that 'amnesty' was the solution to the juxtaposition of illegals and homeland security didn't you?
To: Black Agnes
Yep. It's in the bag!
To: DoughtyOne
From that article on the Mexican ID's:
"The Department of Justice and the FBI have concluded that the matricula consular is not a reliable form of identification," said Steven McCraw, assistant director of the FBI's intelligence office.
I don't care that the article says the administration has a "tolerance" for the ID's. That means they're not raising a stink over it themselves. But look above---you can bet the DOJ is not acting as a rogue department.

Crackdown on illegals = defacto amnesty...
Nope. I don't see it.
To: cyncooper
Matricular Consular ID is a defacto amnesty. Especially since our gov is insisting on its validity for official business. If they're cracking down on illegals for real, how come my neighborhood is flooded still?
To: cyncooper
Well they are voicing their opinions on them, but that doesn't mean they are invalidating them. That would have to come from the top IMO. And I don't see that happening. For all the talk about cracking down, I think this is just more smoke and mirrors. Hey if it turns out not to be, I will be a very happy camper to take my lumps.

Thanks for the converstation folks. Take care everyone.

GWB is delusion if he thinks the AARP and illegal immigrants will vote for him in 2004. After all, why vote for GWB when you could get the real deal in a Democrat.

I can mass produce just about any Mexican documentation on my computer here at the house -- and I have real specimens to work from.
Allow me to introduce myself. I am Luis Martinez, formerly of Ixhuatlan just southeast of Mexico City. And I have all sorts of excellent documentation, to include an original birth certificate, to prove myself. The blondish hair and blue eyes are just a genetic oddity...

Now that we have clarified what the CBP is doing, and now that you have switched to your new comment about strain -- I agree.
