Got any clue how long it takes to train a Border Patrol agent? Or how long it takes for him or her to learn the real ropes on the job?

Got any clue how long it takes to train a Border Patrol agent? It seems that the agents I know have gone back east for about a six month training? I know that does not include on the job training, and of course learning the ropes.
But I think it is good that positions were expanded. They can hardly hold a gun to somebody's head and make them stay down south. They also can't snap their fingers and have a fully trained agent appear to fill the now vacated position.

Of course it takes some time interval for the trainees to come up to speed.
