California only hours away from total ruin

LOS ANGELES -- Any day now, community colleges here may begin telling faculty members that they cannot be paid and students that summer classes are canceled.

Nursing homes are losing so much state aid that many soon may have to shut down or limit their services, a prospect that has elderly residents confused and frightened.

As many as 30,000 government workers who had been expecting pay raises in the fall are instead receiving formal notices warning that they could lose their jobs by then, because the state is broke.

This is life in California, on the brink of a fiscal disaster.

The nation's most populous state, home to one of the world's largest economies, has been staring in disbelief at the same dire predicament for months: a $38 billion deficit, the largest shortfall in its history and an extreme example of the budget woes afflicting many states. But now it has only hours left to solve the problem.

You know...planned properly, and with the explosive charges placed properly, Kalifornia could become a great Mexican Resort off the coasts of Nevada, Arizona, and Oregon.

Expensive but probably a nice place to visit every three or four years or so.

Excellant question...... since I won't log on to the Post website, I guess I'll never know.

I presume July 1 is an important date but don't know why or to what extent.

Any one out there know for sure?

They really should split California up into smaller states.

California sent the federal government $58 billion more than it recieved in federal outlays in 2001.

New Mexico on the other hand received back more than twice in federal spending than it sent in to Washington.

If the Feds quit redistributing wealth, a bunch of you all would be in much worse shape than California. We would be flush, you all couldn't drive on your roads. So I went to hear less California bashing. Perhaps we need to band together with all the big states that act as a federal ATM and cut it off. California's $58 billion, New York's $34 billion, and Illinois' $25 billion pays for a lot of Robert Byrd memorial buildings, bridges and roads in West Virginia which sent $7 billion to Washington, and got $13 billion back in federal spending. It helps Trent Lott get a lot of ships built that the Navy doesn't even want in Mississippi which sent $12 billion to Washington, but got $21 billion back.

I will make uncle sam a deal. Give us our money back, and we won't ask for anything else in return.

Limiting the invasion from Mexico isn't an option yet, huh ?
Guess the "crisis" isn't severe enough.

Californians love the illegals...they do the dirty work. They're just getting p***** that they have to educate and medicate them..that wasn't part of the deal.

There are some very lucrative commissions and charges on any bond floated by Kalifornia the past year.

Wall Street solved the NYC budget problem when they had a similiar situtation.

The bankers may not be our friends, but I will take them over the rats any day, particuliarly with newer SEC rulings that they are under.

Isn't it amazing how much a Democratic feeding frenzy can eat? Not much left of the State budget to actualy run the State after all the hand-shakes between friends in an entirely Democratic controlled budget.

The U.S. taxpayers bailed out Mexico when the economy there was failing and clinton was president.

I expect to see U.S. taxpayers bail out California too.

I think they should give it to North Carolina, South Carolina and Alabama

Uhhh, Thanks, but NO THANKS. We like fruits and nuts that grow on trees (you know, pecans, peaches, apples, etc.)not the ones tht walk around.

This is becoming more interesting each day. If the state goes into bankruptcy, that will trigger a lot of reality instead of the spin of starving Grampa and Gramma and starving little illegal aliens.

If we can hold off until it hits bottom, and Wall Street gets called in to work out a budget. This will be a disaster to Davis and similiar governors in 24 states with similiar problems.

Davis should hire a lot of private security people and never fly in a private airplane. Top Rats, when they become an embarassment either resign or have a serious accident since the Clintons took over the DNC.

Yep... that's exactly what's going to happen. And nothing will be done about the millions of illegals crashing the borders. They'll keep coming, and we'll keep spending.
