Agree--and her willful disregard for everyone but herself as she was routinely stoned while assigned to care for compromised patients.

Well if she was here in Maryland she would have gotten 6 months(at best) in a halfway house.

Was this a hate crime?

No...she is black and the victim was white. That makes it IMPOSSIBLE to be a hate crime!!

Well, I didn't personally soften too much...she was in a position where she had every reason to show remorse whether it was heart felt or not...my guess is, based on her action before trial (when Mr. Biggs was in her garage particularly), that her remorse was all about her and how bad she knew she was going to be punished.

But I can see that display impacting jurors, and I believe it did.

Sounds like it reduced her mandatory time down from 40 years to 25 perhaps.

"Over here?"

Yep! Hey, I was pretty close, huh ???:

Just 20 years, huh ?? Well, I'd give her life, but that's just me.

But there are 12 people there, and none of 'em is me. :O)

I'd say more like 50 years to life is where they'll land.

Rot in prison hell, b!tch. You should have gotten the death penalty, scumbagette. That "white guy" you murdered won't be coming back, even when you get out, old and grey.

I think she's pretty heartless. She left him in her car to die. Doing the deed - hitting him - is one thing. She left him to die. That cinches it for me.

Does anyone know how many days are in a Texas prison “year?”

365.

The law is that she has to serve half her sentance before going before the parole board for the first time.
Half the actual sentance, no "good time".

Horrible act but too much time. I was against anything over 20 years

I cannot fathom why you would think she deserved only twenty years.

I can think of of very few crimes where the guilty person and others, showed a more heinous disregard for a man's life.

She heard him moaning, then left him crumbled up in the front seat of her car, his body distorted, apparently from broken limbs.

Her brother (or brother-in-law) is a paramedic, she could easily have called him. Had she done so, he may have survived.

Hitting the victim was an accident, but to coldly allow him to suffer a slow agonizing death was a cold callous disregard for a human being.

I don't think she should fry for this but it seems to me the 25-30 years that she will serve is a tad light.

I fail to find any good in Chante Mallard. She abused her position at work, falsifyin drug tests. She lied straight out to her family rather than asking those poor people for help.

Her actions immediately following the accident don't suggest she had a shred of humanity or 'good' in her.

Was this a hate crime?

She wasn't charged with that for a couple of reasons. There's no evidence that she picked out a white victim, and it wouldn't have made any difference anyway. A hate crime in Texas bumps up a misdemeanor or felony to a slightly harsher crime, but you can't bump murder up any further.

The Houston-area dentist who drove victory laps over her husband in a hotel parking lot received 20 years in prison. Mallard was whacked by this jury in comparison.

60 years is a life sentence. She did not walk up to the guy and shoot him in the head. If she had she would have gotten the same sentence. Different crime, different sentence. People doing much worse have gottten much less.

"She made a big mistake, but I don't think she is an evil person."

Leaving a man to die in a windshield is evil to me. I saw her testifying on Fox, she gets no sympathy from me.

One person struck an individual with her car.  She had been drinking.  She had been doing drugs.

When she got home, the victim was still alive begging for mercy.  She allowed him to die instead.

She was afraid the police would find out she had been driving while under the influence, then involved in a serious accident.

She got fifty years for killing an innocent person.  She got an additional ten years for tampering with evidence.

One person drove off a bridge.  He had been drinking.  It is unknown what else he may have been doing.

He didn't get home.  Neither did the person traveling in the car with him.  The car went under water.  We will never know if the female involved might have made it if only he had notified the authorities immediately.  She died instead.

He was afraid the police would find out that he had been driving while under the influence, then involved in a serious accident.

He received probation, became a United States Senator and serves to this day.

Does anybody know if the "Heh, heh, get this...I killed a white man" statement made it into the trial?
