Was this a hate crime? She wasn't charged with that for a couple of reasons. There's no evidence that she picked out a white victim, and it wouldn't have made any difference anyway. A hate crime in Texas bumps up a misdemeanor or felony to a slightly harsher crime, but you can't bump murder up any further.

Stupid is as stupid does. Her own actions parlayed what probably would have been a three to twelve felony DUI into a thirty year minimum. Even tho she has no priors, I agree with the jury.
