Asa said publicly that it would be hard for him to say no to the White House if Bush asked him to run, so this article appears to have credibility to it

At this point, I think he is a better candidate than Huckabee.

Sorry, I don't trust the guy after the revelations about the Barry Seal/Mena/cocaine debacle when he was a prosecutor in Arkansas. Arkansas can do better than him.

Hutchinson will have his hands full if he runs against Lincoln. She is a spectacular campaigner as well as a very sophisticated "down home" girl.

I was shocked that this never came up at his DEA confirmation hearing. Now he has oversight of borders in the HSA. Pretty clear what his function is.

I firmly believe that the GOP has a chance against Lincoln in 2004. I know Arkansas is the South's most Republican state, but Lincoln is too liberal. There's exceedingly few southern Democratic senators who sail to re-election anymore, thanks to the Republican Revolution down there. Whether Asa is the best choice, I really don't know. Just not Tim Hutchinson.

Whoops . . . I meant to say that Arkansas is the South's most Democratic state. I don't know what's with me today.

"Asa said publicly that it would be hard for him to say no to the White House if Bush asked him to run"
I guess that means we have to make him an offer he can't refuse! In all seriousness, though, I see him as being a stronger candidate than Huckabee. The reverse was probably true as little as eight months ago, but with the budget issues and a school district consolidation plan that many conservatives have voiced frustration over, it will be hard for him to have a secure base, much less beat Lincoln, who has worked hard to build a non-controversial record in the senate.

Is his brother still a Senator? And being he's part of the Bush Cabinet I think he'll win ;)
