AMARILLO, Texas—If you've never seen a young woman in a staring contest with a 4 1/2-pound slab of red meat, it's a thing to behold.

Her nostrils flare. Her eyebrows twitch. She blinks. She exhales lightly through pursed lips. Then she picks up her serrated knife to begin sawing at her butterflied top sirloin, all 5,200-odd calories of it, cooked medium and sprawled on her dish like a catcher's mitt on home plate. For its part, the steak is impassive.

At the Rose Bowl, they have (or at least used to have) a giant steak dinner for both teams. There is a competition for who can eat the most steak. One player who was in the dorm room beside me made the papers when he ate 16 pounds -- a new record.

And you never find that out until you're too old to have one! Life is SOOOOO unfair . . .

The vegetarians will only get my meat when they pry it from my cold, dead hands!

First they came for my bacon. But I didn't say anything, because I'm not a porker.

Then they came form my steak. But I didn't say anything, because I'm not an ox.

Then they came for my poultry. But I didn't say anything because I'm not a turkey.

Something that is meant to be pleasurable (beer/steak) is turned into punishment

A 4 1/2 lb steak doesn't even sound appetizing to me.

They have a ledger of records there. A 105 pound ,48 year old "lady" ate two of em...........same day.........:o)

Jeff and I eat there when he comes through the Panhandle and stops for a visit. Maybe you can talk Jeff into trying one. My brother has eaten one but I have no foreseeable desire to consume that chunk of steak that resembles a man hole cover in size.

Stay Safe !!

For a truly awesome meal ya have to make the drive west to Wildarado and eat at Randy's..........best kept secret in the Panhandle IMHO. Outlaws down on third street near the airport is my second choice. Use to like the Lonestar out on the Claude highway but it's dropped in quality IMO.

Stay Safe and regards from the Panhandle Maria !

The steaks are simply bigger than a human stomach.

agreed - Im getting nauseous just thinking about it

not to be crude - but I pity the sanitation engineer at the sewage treatment station when that big old "otter" snakes down the pipes

Ha! Not me.

I'm always ordering that 14 oz. Prime Rib and that's tasty enough and plenty enough for me for one sitting.

Mind your knot bro.!

I'll look forward to it my friend, although I am not sure at this point exactly when that will be. I'll give you advance notice ... isn't it my turn to foot the bill?

My folks and brother were through there a couple of weeks ago on their way home from visiting us up here in Idaho. We had a great time with them.

I just got back down from the high country after spending four days on a camp with the scouts in our church. Had a bout 100 youth and forty to fifty adults up there with a daily rotation of classes teaching these young men the qualities and characteristics of true manhood, as opposed to the mush, political correctness and wayward things they get fed all to often in society. We do it every year and it is a real highlight of the summer.

Best regards!
