Russert Has Dean for Breakfast on MTP; Dean is Toast

Dean is Toast; Russert skewered him on MTP

Please post your impressions of this morning's Meet the Press. Here are some revelations about Dean that Russert dug up, thanks to his thorough research staff:

1. Dean actually wants to raise payroll taxes, and increase taxable income from the current 85,000 dollars to 100,000.

2. Got a Vietnam deferrment for a bad back, but spent the same year skiing in Aspen (1971).

3. Wants to recognize gay couples who get married in Canada.

4. Lied to NARAL by withholding critical, relevant information about parental consent during the abortion of a 12 year old girl. Got totally hammered by Russert on this.

5. First said no cuts in SS, Medicaid and the military, but on being pressed, conceded he may have to cut atleast the rate of growth in all three.

6. Changed stance on the death penalty recently, but argues his "thinking" started changing in 1994, but offered no proof of it (how could he? It is easy to say my thinking started changing long before I became a presidential candidate).

7. Claims to be strong on guns, but has "no problem" with gun control laws being "as tough as they want to be" in the states. (My comments: "As tough as they want to be"? Mr. Dean? No respect for the constitution? Have you read the second amendment?)

8. Argues he did not apologize to Sen. Graham, merely said "I am sorry I said that". Russert laughed and asked, "That is not a apology?" What a phony this "straight-talker" is turning out to be!!

9. Got completely shredded to bits on the military when he could not remember the strength of our armed forces, could not say how much he wanted to increase the Afghanistan forces, got flat footed on his statement about ours will not always be the strongest military. Came across as completely unworthy of being a steward of our armed forces.

10. And best of all, wants to increase our income taxes by rolling back all the tax cuts passed last month.

It is hard to imagine a worse performance by a major party candidate. Even Sharpton came across as more believable!!!

He's doing Hillary's work.

That was my first thought too. He's paving the way for her heinous.

Jeb Bush (on "Scarborough Country") summed up Dean's candidacy succinctly:
"He's not going to be President of the United States... I mean... I don't know what to say... I'm trying to be polite."

You're right that "contributions" will go up. But higher contributions don't mean higher payouts, at least not per retiree. The problem with SS is that the number of retirees per SS "contributor" is going down. So SS taxes have to increase substantially just to meet present benefit levels, let alone increase them.

A disaster in the making, and we've been tragically slow in trying to deal with it :-(.

That, if it can be proved, is downright damning. But Russert would need evidence that that's how he got the deferment and that he really did ski.

Russert quoted an article in the Boston Globe for that, which had done the research.

The article said that Dean spent 80 days skiing on Ajax Mountain in Colorado in 71-72, while working for a company pouring concrete. Dean responded that he took the military induction physical, he was prepared to serve, but that he was given a 1-Y deferment, because he has trouble running, other than that he can use his back it sounds like, except for the running.

Just quoting what he said on MTP, I'm no fan of his!

I dunno. AlGore was pathetic and inept to the point of absolute embarassment and he damn near got elected!

DemocRATs don't seem to mind. They just "pull the donkey" no matter who's in the slot.

19% want a conservative liberal

What's a conservative liberal? Is that like a straight curve, or a UN peacekeeper, or a liberal intellectual?

NO!

You MUST vote for Al. I will here in NY. Dean won't even be a historical footnote. Sharpton can derail the Dems for a decade!

Just heard him say "We don't know if the Iraqi people are better off" that Saddam Hussein is gone.

Also "This is a radical Republican administration" and went on to list his perception the way only a far leftist would see W's administration.

This guy's got an ego that may match Clinton and he is delusional.

Russert is tough on guests that are not in the Clinton family syndicate.

He's doing Hillary's work.

Nahhh, I'm not so sure. Look, it would be in Hillary's long term interest to make someone like Dean the Democratic nominee. McGovern '72 redux, if you get my drift. Just as the collapse of McGovern's candidacy opened the door for a Southern liberal, the collapse of a Dean candidacy could open the door for a "moderate, pro-defense" Hillary Clinton in 2008.

If, otoh, a John Kerry ran a strong race and events conspired to weaken Bush, Kerry could be elected in 2004. Okay, suppose Kerry does passably well as President and gets reelected in 2008.

By 2012 Hillary is going to be looking really ripe, and she will be Yesterday's News. How ripe will Hillary be in 2012? This ripe....

Nope, Russert isn't doing Hillary's work, because Hillary wants Dean to win. Russert is doing the work of the Congressional Democrats and the East Coast Media (centered around the Editorial Room of the New York Times) who want Kerry to be President and who, I might add, blame the Clinton pair for the collapse of the Democratic Party in the Congress.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

Russert is a Kerry partisan and did John F. Kerry Heinz's bidding this morning!

What i found more vexing was Terry "Pinko" Mcaullife's appearance on Debase the Nation. Pinko is the anti-christ!

9. Got completely shredded to bits on the military when he could not remember the strength of our armed forces, could not say how much he wanted to increase the Afghanistan forces, got flat footed on his statement about ours will not always be the strongest military. Came across as completely unworthy of being a steward of our armed forces.

I was completely floored with Dean on this issue. When asked how many people we had in our active military, he said between one million to two million. He said this several times. I wish I had this generous range when taking all my math classes in college. Q: What is 100 X 15,000?? A: Between one million and two million?

Another thing was Dean thought was that we didn't have enough forces in Afghanistan and Iraq. He wants to double that with NATO, UN or USA. Wouldn't that be termed more as an occupation by a foreign nation? Also, this is a complete reversal for someone who started out the interview as saying President Bush should have used more diplomacy instead of military might. Come on Dean! Which is it gonna be?
