Understanding the internal politics of Pakistan are far beyond my faculties. Don't these folks ever realize that if the jihadis ever do win and turn Pakistan into a theocracy that millions of Pakistanis are going to die in the war with India that is almost certain to follow?

THe jihadis will never win in Pakistan, AE, because they are wholly owned, created, nurtured and funded subsidiaries of the Pakistani govt; the military and the ISI. The govt is not the army; the army is the govt.

Te jihadis can be kept on a leash, used to bleed India as needed and used as a counterfoil to US "pressure" to crack down on jihadis, Musharraf will keep playing his game. And getting rewards from the US, while keeping alive eventual transfer of Pakistani nukes to Saudi.

Heck, the taliban was an ISI creation, and the majority of the dead jihadis killed in Afghanistan by US Special Forces were wearing Paki issued sweaters and uniforms. (HuntforBinLadinbyRobinMoore). AQ's warm and comfortable relationship with the Pakistanis was not with an aberrant and rogue element but with the power holders, including Musharraf.

Musharraf has played the US like a master violinist.

No, I didn't see it. Thanks for letting me know. I can believe that they are planning a major strike. And considering this warning, I could also believe that it's a WMD strike or multiple simultaneous WMD strikes, including nukes.

The warning from your link (MEMRI's direct translation) is rather ominous:

"Osama bin Laden is about to direct a "fatal blow" to the "head of the international media serpent that serves the American whims and interests." He added that the upcoming phases against the U.S. will "cut off the wings of the American eagle, slice its arteries, and finally butcher it the Islamic way."

The recent information from the fellow regarding the Brooklyn bridge was interesting in that it shows us that AQ is mostly a low tech operation. This guy was planning to use a blow torch on cables holding up the Brooklyn Bridge, real high tech. That's not to say that truck bombs and the like can't be very bad things. But this information, in my opinion, proves that 9/11 was not an AQ operation, too sophisticated, too much planning and strategy. It was Saddam all the way.

I had a lot of experience working with Pakistani's in Saudi, you can never never trust them. They are out for themselves only and will tell you anything you want to hear.

Musharraf will keep the terrorism operations going and catch a few, but they will never stop, because if he stops all terrorism the US backing (money), will cease to flow and so will his legitimacy as a government.

Another case of the US backing the wrong horse, yes he assisted with the war in Afghanistan, but thats over, please do not make the same mistake the US made with UBL the first time in Afghanistan.

Bin Laden has a history of issuing a cryptic warning prior to each major attack, so I think they are preparing for one or more, the question of course is where, when and what kind of attack, and of course hope we can foil the attack(s).

I think there were many other attacks they were preparing, but thank God, we were able to stop them so far.
