A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Thanks, Mixer!
1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar. 2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up. 3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit. 4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it. 5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me a FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer

I sure did live in The Azores. On Terceira Island. At 10 miles x 18 miles, it was the third largest in the archipalego of 9 islands. The Portuguese people we met there are just like you say - VERY nice people. Dad worked with some in his squadron and we lived off base in a house we rented from a Portuguese man. I was much impressed with them. One of the Portuguese men Dad worked with invited our family to their house once for lunch. We went on a Saturday and they served rabbit. It was good too. I remember the Portuguese sweet bread too. I loved it. Ah, and the Portuguese wine too !
I learned 'poke sheen' (sp??) - 'a little bit' of Portuguese while I was, but not much. And I've probably forgotten more than I can remember since it's been over 30 years since I left the Island in 1972.
More info on my link there on #25 too.

"On the morning of Feb. 20, 1959, I was released from active duty," said Mayor Fontes. "That afternoon, I was commissioned as an officer. The rest of my record is classified." Hmmmmm........something definitely sounds fishy about this.
After reading the complete article, I would say the guy's claims are seriously in doubt. To embellish one's military record in order to gain favor with the electorate,.......or to completely fabricate much of it, as it seems this guy has, is despicable. It's an insult to every military veteran from the lowliest Private on up. I say a good FReeping is in order.

Can scarcely wait to hear about your Freep, Colleen, and see the pictures!
As a native Floridian, I prefer the warm months over cold ones.
When I was in Fairbanks for 3 1/2 years, I adjusted to the point of actually thinking, "If it gets up to Zero, everything will be all right!"
What I actively longed for were days when you could comfortably wear shorts; few and far between.
In 3 summers there, I recall only about a dozen good 80-degree days....but loved them being light from the middle of May until the middle of August!
Bit of twilight around midnight, but never dark!

In fact, there is a vestment of chain mail 'neath this overcoat....gets rusty in the salt air, though.

Aha! - the trap you set for The Thin Man has been prematurely sprung!Yes, I can't help but laugh. The trap was so obvious.
As far as I'm concerned there are no errors and no one can convince me differently. :-)

I remember the Portuguese sweet bread too. I loved it. Ah, yes! We have a little Portuguese lady in town who brings us homemade sweet bread every so often. Also love their Sopas and Portuguese Beans. We look forward to photographing the "Our Lady of Fatima" celebration each year where we are treated to some wonderful ethnic food and wine from some of our best cooks.

Finally one little boy tentatively raised his hand. The pastor breathed a sigh of relief and called on him. "Well," said the boy, "I *know* the answer must be Jesus... but it sure sounds like a squirrel to me!" LOL!! Thanks for the laughs, Dubya.

"Ten Dog Rules"
1. The dog is not allowed in the house.
2. Okay, the dog is allowed in the house, but only in certain rooms.
3. Ok, fine, the dog is allowed in all rooms, but has to stay off the furniture.
4. The dog can get on the old furniture only.
5. Fine, the dog is allowed on all the furniture, but is not allowed to sleep with the
humans on the bed.
6. Okay, the dog is allowed on the bed, but only by invitation.
7. The dog can sleep on the bed whenever he wants, but not under the covers.
8. The dog can sleep under the covers by invitation only!
9. The dog can sleep under the covers every night.
10. Humans must ask permission to sleep under the covers with the dog.

"Your FRiends made the issue so confusing that I had no choice but to give up. :)" It is so heartwarming that, despite the obstacles so frequently placed before you, you maintain such a positive and cheerful attitude.
Three cheers for The Thin Man!!!

Yes, the finest is the place to be.
Having a good day here, trying to be productive inside, but it's distracting when it's so beautiful outside.

When Sasha wakes, please inquire of her if she knows where my Binky Boy is hiding!
The past 3 days, he has lodged behind the books on the lower shelf of the entertainment center in a 'Secret Cave.'
Last night, he (again) kicked off one half of the things arranged on an 11" x 14" mirror sitting on the large coffee table, to better admire himself and lie thereupon.
When last seen this morning after being chased down from there, he was behind an arm chair - then 'invisible mode' was enacted.
A thorough search has yielded nothing, although it is suspected he is beneath my bed with his 'stealth armor' keeping him from being spotted.
Hunger and thirst eventually will bring him to the kitchen, and his usual 'herd the human toward the refrigerator' tactic.....

Hi Amy! Today is a good day to be working in the yard. Not too hot. :-)
Was there a rally last night? Did someone post a thread? I didn't get a ping.
