Sometimes the fact that posters turned into "antis" is a very good thing, not a loss.
About a week ago I received the first of a series of emails from a former poster who now runs a website that obsesses on FreeRepublic and its people. It took some time, and I appreciated the help of a veteran Freeper, but eventually I found out the real name of the "gentleman" who was writing some pretty trashy stuff about me, and others.
I went to the website that my FR friend located, and read some highly actionable nasty stuff in print on the Net about me, others, and FR. But as best I could tell, the site consisted of a handful of maladjusted people who vent their spleen in a targeted direction. In my judgment, too small and too petty a group to bother with -- which is exactly what I said to them in my one and only post on their thread dedicated to savaging me.
Over the years FR has lost a handful of able and welcome posters. But bottom line, most who have gone have caused an improvement in our community, not a harm to it. And that's one more compliment to the kind of establishment you run, my friend, here on the banks of the swamp of the Internet.

Although I must admit, it's not always easy. I don't feel the oneness anymore and I don't think anyone would argue that the collective forum IQ has dropped down to the double digits. Looking for an answer? Here:

All we ever do anymore is talk about f***ing people and politicians, and 911. The mission statement on the first page, now THERE's an idea. It looks more like some antiquated pie in the sky idealism than anything we're striving for anymore.
FR is still very useful in many ways for me, and there's still a lot of people I care much about (including you and John). However, I find it took on a pettyness that makes me feel as if I don't belong as much as I used to. I'm saying the same things I always did but constantly getting my freaking head handed to me for it.
Besides, the state of our nation is getting worse than ever and our freaking government is literally becoming a plundering monster. Maybe you're used to that living in CA, but I've never seen anything like this.
Just some of what's rolled down hill in the last few years (fed, state and local) has costed me literlally thousands upon thousands of dollars, not to mention the insufferable chinese torture of all of these opressive laws, rules and regs that just keep coming downhill. I swear to God Jim, all my leisure time is spent fighting them off (activism) nowadays, but things just get worse. For every 1 we win we lose five.
I hate to say this, but I think we're losing the long fight and the crash is already set up, maybe that's good ...I dunno. Whether we all stand together and vote GOP or whatever. My guess is that if we did it the anti-FRs way, or the ptichforkers way or the libertines way, things wouldn't be much different, as our fellow countrymen and voters are gone, shot.
I know you won't admit it, but I sense I certain guilt from you at times, and you seem to second guess yourself often (which means you have a conscience). You shouldn't feel that way at all, as you've done and continue to do great things and you're a great American. Unfortunately there's no script on "How to run the first ever world class politcal forum".
What was the subject of this post again? Oh yeah, you were trying to be like Doug! Hehe.
