Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day

Fathering a child is truly a blessing from God, answering a primal calling. It memorializes a man as a virile instrument and fulfills his destiny of  passing his unique genic bloodlines on to the next generation. Fatherhood thus, offers a man a level of respect, and is universally recognized as one of his most important achievements.  However, is it really that much a personal accomplishment?

Proof of true masculinity however, is not to be found simply in the act of procreation, if you are looking for a title that carries some real weight, ...try being a real DAD....

Contrary to the hit most men are taking in today's mainstream pop culture, the overwhelming majority of men, more than meet and most, far exceed the duties and responsibilities of a real Dad, that being, provider, role model, sagacious, dependable, trustworthy, and most important of all,.. loving.

Formally, the honoring of your father has been traced from humble and heartfelt beginnings to the creation of the first official Father's Day observance...

The first accepted documented version of the setting aside of a special day for a child to honor his/or her father was by a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd, residing in Spokane, Washington. It occurred to her that a day was needed to create a special Father's Day. She arrived at this conclusion while attending church, and listening to her pastor's Mother's Day sermon in, 1909.
Sonora, having been raised by her father, William Jackson Smart, after the early passing of her mother, she  wanted her father to know how very special he was in her life. It was her selfless dad that made all the parental sacrifices and was, in her eyes, a courageous, sage, and loving man. Since her father was born in June, she chose to hold the first Father's Day celebration in Spokane, on the 19th of June, 1910.

A National Father's Day Committee was formed in 1926, in New York City, for the express purpose of creating a formal Father's Day. Their proclamation was finally approved by a Joint Resolution of Congress, in 1956. It wasn't until 1972 that President Richard Nixon established the first permanent national observance of Father's Day which was designated to be held on the third Sunday of each June.

So it is from a grateful, warm heart of a child, we now hold that for at least one Sunday in June, our Father's will get some messure of gratitude that they and all good fathers should be honored with their own special day, just as we honor our wonderful mothers on her Mother's Day.

.. now try being a Dad

Is there anything more important in life, that a man could do that carries more of Gods blessing than that of being a DAD..
So today, as it has and will continue to be every single day of my life, I will recall the fond memories I have for the one man that set the bar so high for me to reach for in becoming what is the most important achievment I want out of my life, to be a real DAD.. God rest your pure soul my dear Uncle Joe.. I miss and love you dearly.. you were  my real dad... huggg....kiss

Thank you so much for sharing that wisdom and your insight! I will pass it along to my nephew.

I've already warned them about the parental intelligence curve. I told them if they would make a chart with the age of a kid horizontally and the parent's I.Q. vertically and charted out the parent's intelligence over time --- they'd discover some interesting things.

From the earliest on to middle school, dad and mom know everything and so the line starts high and stays high to about age 12. Then we parents lose our minds. We become hopelessly ignorant and stay that way until the child is about 21.

Then we start regaining our mental abilities, year by year until the child has a kid of his own and the curve shoots up abruptly. My daughter is married but childless, so my I.Q. is about 50% of its peak. LOL!

Since my two oldest are 16 & 14, my parental IQ is just barely hovering above 0.

However, they act better in public now, because my ability to embarrass them (without trying) is in inverse proportion to my parental IQ! There are two words in the English language that cause them to curl up into a fetal position:

HAPPY DANCE!!! All I have to do is threaten to do the 'Happy Dance' in public, and they immediately exude perfect behavior!

A few things I have said after becoming a father:

Be careful! Watch out! Oh sweetie, don't jump off that! Wear your helmet! Slow down! (Insert countless statements of a similiar nature here.)

Ask mommy that question. Please ask mommy.

What? What did you say? I don't understand that. Let daddy look that word up in the dictionary. Oh, that's Spanish? Uh, OK.

You really have gotten good at reading!

OK, we have a deal. You can have the Beta but no more toads! That's the deal. You get the fish but not more toads! You can't keep any more toads! Mommy has to go to the pet store for crickets to feed them every week.

I love you too. Yes, I love you too sweety. And I know you love mommy and gran and paw-paw, Jesus and all these other people. OK. No problem. Just keep praying for all of them. I can wait until you are finished.

Yes! That is "W Bush" honey. Yes, that's his car. It's called a limo. Who is she? That's his wife. Her name is Barbara.

Steve (the crock hunter) will be fine. The crock won't get him. No way. No. Not the snake either. Yes, he should be more careful. I know kids are watching this.

I don't know the words but I will try. I sing this part? OK? No? I sing the "guy part". And you sing the "girl part"? This is from the Lion King right?

Shh. It's time to sleep.

Great thread, carlo. Thank you for presenting it. And, Happy Dad's Day to you.

Always loved to come home from work, walk in the back door and hear the scrambling of little feet running to meet me and the shouts of "Daddy's Home!"

Thanks. I was a single dad for 5 years.

Now I am remarried and we have one of our own.

The libbers would have you believe a child doesn't need a dad, but we all have seen for ourselves what happens to cultures with absent fathers.

Happy father's day to you!

I am blessed to still have my father - sometimes a difficult man, but a man of high values who instilled those values in me.

God Bless my father Louis and you, Carlo, who have been a positive, loving and caring presence on FR.

Above all, God Bless my wonderful husband .45MAN this Father's Day. He embodies the religious and moral values that I learn from every day and look up to.

Love and ((((((HUGS)))))) to you all!
