I don't know what the Roadmap is in any detail, but nothing has worked over there so far and the Roadmap is at least the current attempt to resolve things. It will probably fail like the rest, but it has to be tried.

I think that as of today's bombings, it has failed. I no longer support the attempt. I hope President Bush realizes that Hamas and the other palestinian terror groups need to be destroyed before peace can be reached through negotiation.

Let's be clear. Is this Bush's Roadmap, or the Roadmap from the EU, UN, Russia, Saudi Arabia and other Islamic countries--and Colin Powell's roadmap, of course.

I agree, the roadmap has just taken a wrong turn. It's finished.

(there will be two posts from me. The first one as a Democrat, or as some posters I refuse to mention. The second as me.)
I don't know a darn thing about bush's road map to peace, but I think it is totally wrong. How can he think he knows what road others should take? He just wants a map to the oil, so he can get rich. That's all he is interested in and he doesn't care about our country or theirs. We need someone like Bill's Wife, Hillary, to run this country.

Second post.
Since there is not a list of specific points on the 'roadmap to peace' concept, it is very hard to discuss or argue them.
I can only say that many objected to President Bush's roadmap to freeing Iraq, but he accomplished it in minimum time, and minimum casualties.

I support the intent. My personal suggestion, however, is to root out these terrorists much like we have with Al Qada. I don't believe they can be negotiated with or rewarded for their acts. I also believe the Pali people hold responsibility too since they sympathize with and support these terrorists.

"President Bush's response to the latest Palestinian terror is to tell the Jew-hating Arabs in Gaza that terror will get them "nothing." Au contraire. Terror has gotten the Palestinian terrorists everything -- invitiations to the UN, recognition, Nobel peace prizes, support for a terrorist state (Mahmoud Abbas's entire life has been devoted to terror) and a peace plan that requires Israel to give up real assets while Palestinian terrorists promise to be good." - David Horowitz

The roadmap's first step is the cessation of violence (that is stopping terrorism). Because the palistians ARE terrorists, it seems like it might be a bit difficult to get past step one. But the Israel-haters pushing the road map somehow ignore that and want to move onto the steps where Israel gives up everything, including Jerusalem, to the Palestinians (to the terrorists).

It will probably fail like the rest, but it has to be tried. If you don't know what the Roadmap is, how can you suggest that it has to be tried? Hitler had a Roadmap too.
The way to "resolve things" is the same way things have been resolved throughout history, with a war. Let the two sides fight it out without outside brokers coming in to stop the fight every ten minutes. We'll all be much better off after it's over.

Then Hamas has accomplished what they wanted. Terrorism pays, right? The appropriate response is for Israel to completely destroy Hamas, BEFORE peace can be brokered. Negotiating with terrorism never works.
By the way, the PLO is supposed to shut these groups down, which, of course, they are not doing. Isn't that a prerequisite to the "roadmap"?

Peace first; roadmap second.
You cannot negotiate with terrorists.
As long as the Palestinians want Israel dead, there can be no roadmap. I do not see why anyone gives credibility to murderers.

I think Sharon messed up, big time, with his strike the other day that wounded the Hamas leader.
Before I get jumped, let me explain.
Abbas made his statement saying that the Palestinians would renounce violent means.
Hamas said "we do not agree" and issued a statement saying as such.
This is where Sharon messed up.
He should have arranged to be on TV at the precise moment the strike was occurring. He should have said "Hamas said the violence will continue from their side. Instead of us waiting to be hit, we are taking them at face value that they intend to hit us. Every time they reaffirm that they will continue to use violence, we will strike. Thank you."
He has managed to take what was in essence a defensive strike, and let it be spinned as an offensive strike.
He needed to make clear when it was happening that it was Hamas, by rejecting the peace initiative, that was to blame for the continued violence.
As for the roadmap, until the latest rounds of violence I supported it, but now I do not. I can't see it working with the latest round of violence.

I hope President Bush realizes that Hamas and the other palestinian terror groups need to be destroyed before peace can be reached through negotiation. I think the point of road map will be to help our Arab and European coalition partners understand that if and when Mazen fails to stop Hamas.
To: SunStar
I think it was part of the roadmap, not a prerequisite.
Israel can't destroy Hamas, or they already would have. I certainly don't have any objection if they did it now.
But make no mistake, it is Hamas (and Arafat) who want the roadmap to fail. And if it is abandoned this early, the terrorists will have won.

If it is just going through the motions to "prove" that one can't reason with muslims, it's a waste of time.
If it's a serious proposal, Bush is delusional, and I worry.

hope President Bush realizes that Hamas and the other palestinian terror groups need to be destroyed before peace can be reached through negotiation. It's not that simple.
They must be destroyed by the "palestinians" themselves.
Otherwise all bets are off.
It will prove conclusively whether the percentage of "innocent" "palestinians" is closer to 95% or 0.5%
