I think it was part of the roadmap, not a prerequisite.

Israel can't destroy Hamas, or they already would have. I certainly don't have any objection if they did it now.

But make no mistake, it is Hamas (and Arafat) who want the roadmap to fail. And if it is abandoned this early, the terrorists will have won.

Perhaps not. But the reason might be that these groups operate with the blessings of certain other nations, like Syria and its proxy state, Lebanon, and maybe Jordon, and even Saudi Arabia. In my mind its hard to separate the problem of Islamofascist terrorists in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Jordon, Lebanon, Libya, and even Saudi Arabia with the problem of the Israeli/Palestinian affair.

All of these terrorist organizations have to considered as part of the same whole, as part of the global problem of Islamic fundamentalist terrorists. Certainly they communicate with one another, they are funded through the same channels, and they are supported/sheltered by the same governments. The War on Terrorism is a world war; no regional conflicts will be peacefully resolved until that war is won. And its going to take time, money, and resolve to do it.
