Rebuilt girls' school burned down
June 6 2003
Suspected Islamic fundamentalists opposed to female education have burned down a girls' school near the Afghan capital, Kabul, the latest in a series of such attacks since the fall of the Taliban regime.
The state-run Arman-e-Millie daily newspaper said the school in Maidan province, about 30 kilometres south-west of Kabul, had recently been rebuilt and equipped by the United Nations.
It blamed the attack on "enemies of science and culture" and said it was the sixth girls' school to be burned in Maidan since the Taliban was ousted by a US-led coalition in late 2001.
The Taliban banned female education during its rule, but hundreds of thousands of girls have returned to school since the fundamentalists fell.
More than a dozen girls' schools have either been burned down or blown up countrywide since late 2001 and authorities have blamed remnants of the Taliban for the attacks.

How can you rebuild if there are those intent on tearing it down.Fanatics fear losing control and power just like all tyrants.

True. A religion who mandates women be unseen, unheard, etc. while our women sit on the Supreme Court, is an indication of how unviable that faith is in todays society.

The answer might be to provide the girls with the wherewithal to blow up fundamentalist mosques and other buildings and structures.

I can't believe that this is tolerated more than once.
All villages within a half-day walk should be questioned.
If no one knows anything, all should be moved 100 miles away and the villages razed.
There is only one language these animals understand.
And the ambivalent villagers have to learn to fear something more than they fear the Taliban.

The Teachers Unions in the US do not burn down Black Schools but the result is the same, do not educate Black kids. See prior posting --- pass kids without being tested to see if they can READ.

I have often wondered what the result would be if the women in Afghanistan were armed and taught how to defend themselves.....

The women should be armed. The mosques should be blown to bits. Turnabout is fair play.
My heart goes out to these girls who want nothing more than a chance to learn and improve their lives. These vermin burning the schools are terrified of losing their grip on power. Educated people are their worst fear and enemy.
I hope our troops find them and turn them over the an angry mob.
