Hi folks!
On March 5, I fell at my apartment and tore my rotator cuff in my right shoulder. The landlord never extended the awning over the steps and we had freezing rain overnight, and when I stepped out the door I could not stop in time and went down a flight of stairs, 4 steps.
I tried to go through therapy and a cortizone shot, but the doctor felt there was zero progress, and tomorrow I am slated for surgery about 11AM or so EST.

I hear it is a painful event for the first 3 days or so.
I will be in a sling for 2 months and in therapy for at least 4 more months after that.
The surgeon is assuring me I will be 100% after 1 year, able to lift 50 Lbs after 6 months.
I have applied to several state agencies for charity to pay the bill as I am unemployed and uninsured. One agency told me I will get at least a partial payment from the state, and the rest is mine, but that when my Landlord settles the lawsuit I will have to pay it back. Fair enough!
In the mean time, I will be typin with one hand, single word answers I guess! Maybe even single letters!
But I appreciate any thoughts toward me in this time!

Prayers your way, and take it easy on the FReepin - that can be hard on the rotator cuff!

I urge you to get a second opinion before the surgery. My mother had her rotator cuff repaired a few years ago and has chronic pain still.
Good luck!

Typing with one hand takes the fun out of a good flame war.
Best of luck to you, Race.

Praying now.
Get well quick Race.

Wow. You have ours, Race. And good luck. We know someone who just went through something very similar, tore a rotator cuff, and is doing just fine after surgery and physical therapy. We'll be thinking of you tomorrow. ANd doesn't your landlord have insurance that would cover your innjuries? Seems to me if would be easier on him and his insurer to cover you now than risk a lawsuit. And tell him I have one word for him: Rocksalt.

I'll certainly pray for you, RaceBannon. <><
The recovery is long for this type of injury/surgery. Please follow the therapy closely to ensure complete healing. My bil had this surgery about 8 years ago and is doing very well.

Good luck on your surgery & recovery.
In the meantime perhaps there are Freepers who can give you some pointers on summarizing complex societal/political sentiments in 10 words or less:)

Hang in, Race. I have had both of my rotator cuffs repaired. Remember to have plenty of button-up type shirts available. You won't be putting on a t-shirt for a little bit (well, you can, but it is a little tricky).
On the typing, you could buy some voice recognition software (Dragon or ViaVoice). That would allow you to have more full responses. You could use the software with Word and copy/paste in your posts? Just a thought...

Race, oooo, I feel for you. I've had a partial tear of my rotator cuff for years and there are days it hurts like Hades. No surgery, though--it's not torn ENOUGH.
Just remember that when you get into PT, the physical terrorists enjoy pulling the wings off flies, just for fun.

Prayers sent and will continue!
Looks like we will be in Connecticut at the end of the month. You should come out for some R&R...
