MAY 28--Turns out the Florida woman who is suing for the right to wear a Muslim headdress in a driver's license photograph has previously been subjected to an, um, unveiled government portrait. Following her 1997 conversion to Islam, Sultaana Freeman (formerly Sandra Keller) was arrested in Decatur, Illinois for battering a foster child. Freeman, 35, pleaded guilty in 1999 to felony aggravated battery and was sentenced to 18 months probation. As a result of the conviction, state officials removed two foster children from Freeman's care. The mug shot of the felonious Freeman (below left) was taken after her arrest in the Illinois case. Freeman returned to the dock this week--that's her testifying in the below right photo--to challenge Florida rules requiring prospective drivers to submit to unveiled photos for their licenses. Last year, Freeman sued the state after her license was revoked when she failed to allow officials to photograph her sans headdress. State officials contend that, in light of the September 11 attacks, it is crucial that all motorists now be photographed in an unadorned state. (1 page)

How long is this 'trial' going to last and when will a decision be reached? It should have never even come before a judge it's so ridiculous.

Am I the only one who thinks she's not ugly? Plain? Yes. Ugly? No.
To: Timesink
Let her have her drivers license with the vail. However, let her know that if she is stopped for an infraction of the law she will be arrested until the police can ascertained who the "H___" she really is. (Which might take several hours or several days.

How can she drive a car when her peripheral vision is obstructed by that bag on her head. How can the rest of us drive if she doesn't?

Even with the veil, she might have been detected, using face recognition software. One of the primary metrics they use, as I recall, is the distance between the eyes. It just would have taken a little longer, and she might have abused a few more children before being caught. What a creep.

Ugly - The crooked nose tells us her mother would prop her up in the corner and feed her with a sling shot.

Is that what the mullahs refer to as "a two-veiler"?
To: PetroniDE
Im not sure it is Islamic law.Glenn Beck was talking about this, this morning. In Saudi they are not allowed to drive, In Eygpt there are but HAVE to remove the veil for the drivers photo

The state should just take a thumbprint (she can show her hands, can't she?) and send her home with a drivers license that says "Photo Not Available", with an endorsement that says "This license is not a substitute for a picture ID".
That way she can drive, so she has not suffered any wrong from the state. But when she tries to use this Drivers License as a picture ID to sign a check, or buy cigarettes, or get on an airplane, the person looking at the ID will know that they need to get some other card that has a picture.
If she is stopped for an infraction while driving, her identity can be easily confirmed by hauling her burka'ed butt down to the station for a set of fingerprints, and she can wait while the originals are faxed from Tallahassee.

I have seen ME women interviewed that have stated that women is Saudi Arabia are not permitted to drive, but there are other ME countries where they can. Not all ME countries adhere to the same laws.
But, besides all that Ms Fuller may be of Syrian descent, but she is American as apple pie, one trying to get over on the system. She has no foreign accent what so ever. Speaks perfect english. They need to boot her right out of the courtroom after making her pay for court cost and whatever other financial burden is incurred by the state.
