Please join us in honoring our Military past and present and all of those who paid the ultimate price to ensure our freedom. May God Bless and protect our Military the way that they protect us.

May God bless our soldiers, each and every one.
May those who died bravely for our country, rest in peace. We are eternally grateful, and ever thankful, to all our fallen heros.

Mornin' and salute for this fine tribute.

Contrary to what Macy's, Sears, & JCPenney would have you believe, Memorial Day is not a day of "Big Savings," it's a day to remember those who gave their lives in the service of this great country.

Thank you for presenting this thread honoring those who served.

Good morning, FReepers, FRiends and Finest Sistahs. I love this site on holidays such as this where we can all come together and truly experience the importance of this day.

Dansy, this is a beautiful Memorial Day tribute you have posted. I also had a POWMIA bracelet. I never knew what happened to my military man, or my husband's, until I searched the Virtual Wall. Thank you so much for that link. What a wonderful site that is.

This is what I found......... The name on my bracelet.......Maj. Richard Ayers.....

RICHARD LEE AYERS was born on February 18, 1933 and joined the Armed Forces while in WATERLOO, IA.

He served as a 1323F in the Air Force, 12 TRS TAN SON NHUT AB, and attained the rank of COL/O6.

RICHARD LEE AYERS is listed as Missing in Action.

My husband's bracelet.......Cdr. Kenneth Cameron.....

KENNETH ROBBINS CAMERON was born on August 9, 1928 and joined the Armed Forces while in BERKELEY, CA.

He served as a 1310 in the Navy, and attained the rank of CAPT/O6.

On May 18, 1967, at the age of 38, KENNETH ROBBINS CAMERON perished in the service of our country in North Vietnam, Nz.

Thank you, dansy, for your moving tribute this Day of Remembrace and Gratitude, and for all who participated in the observance.
I waited to reply until I reached the end of the thread to add my respects.

Watching the President at Arlington Cemetery was so moving, his sincerity obvious - no line of veterans deliberately doing an about face and standing at parade rest to show their feelings for 'his predecessor' I saw one year on Veterans Day.

If you missed it, look for a replay of when he was moving from placing the wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown to go to the platform for his speech. A nearby lone voice came from the crowd, with "God bless you, Mr. President," and he stopped briefly to quietly reply, "Thank you."

It doesn't get much better in America than in these days of God-guided leadership!

In another way, it has been a most difficult day. Writing recently a friend of 54 years (our birthdays two weeks apart) not hearing from him in about two, when we got together in Augusta with him and his wife, a response was in my morning mail.

"My Gwen died on March 30, 2003. Kari lost her son in the fifth month of pregnancy on March 29, 2003, the day before Gwen died. Convince me that either of those events was God's will for the betterment of the Universe. It won't be easy to do."

J

Kari is his step-daughter, who became his daughter at age 9. His only child, a son, died of cancer one year ago, the day after his birthday.
It will be a while before I can make a reply to him, asking God for meaningful words...

Soldiers

In Arlington and Flanders Field,

They rest in row by row.

They fought and died for liberty

to preserve the peace we know.

They fought upon the beaches

of many foreign lands.

They fought for right and glory

for which our country stands.

They marched to war with courage.

They fought the battles thru.

They only thought of victory,

our peace they would renew.

On distant shores and jungle wars,

they would for peace persist.

They gave their lives for freedom,

no greater cause exist.

For honor, truth, and glory,

they fought and died together,

side by side in trenches deep.

They're remembered now and ever.

In Flanders Field and Arlington,

and in jungles and oceans deep,

our boys will rest forever.

We pray they rest in peace.

U.S. Memorial Day, May 30

"Changing the date merely to create three-day weekends has undermined the very meaning of the day.
No doubt, this has contributed greatly to the general public's nonchalant observance of Memorial Day."

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies grow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
