Goodbye Soccer Mom, Hello 'Security Mom' [and they are going GOP]
Time ^ | May 25, 2003 | Karen Tumulty

Posted on 05/25/2003 7:58:04 PM PDT by ewing

Republican pollster David Winston was the first to identify the shift from Soccer Mom to Security Mom and he warns 'What these women are looking for is solutions to make their families and children safer.

It's about solutions, it's not about partisan bickering'

Democratic political consulant Rachel Gorlin agrees, 'We cant criticize what the Bush Administration is doing unless we make it clear that the criticism is toward a new and improved approach -we are turning people off.'

It is that kind of impatience with point scoring politics that nettles women like 31 year old Stacy McDaniel, who stockpiles water and canned goods in San Diego, and plans an exit route when she goes to a ball game.

I'm unconvinced, at least here.

ECONOMY is still key. Social issues are also key.
Barring a Geoff Fieger candidate, the dems won the dem areas and will continue to do so. The GOP will win the GOP areas. I don't see Republicans winning Wayne County, Washtenaw County or Genesee County anytime soon. I don't see Democrats winning Ottawa County, Kent County, or Livingston County either.

As for Swing areas, Granholm won big with the state employees. She won the more cultural liberal areas like Central Oakland County, and Meridian Township out in the Lansing area. Posthumus overperformed in union areas and cultural conservative areas, particulary Macomb and Monroe county.

For the state rep races, there were little coattails. The dems won the dem areas, the GOP won the GOP areas, and the best organized and well known candidates USUALLY won the swing areas.

Security is an issue, but one of many. If Joe Sixpack is laid off, what's going to be a bigger concern?

Let's be fair about 1992. How many men voted for Perot and gave Clinton the election by default? Or stayed home framing a picture of Buchanan to hang on their wall?

I've been perplexed by the constant polls that claim to show that "concerns about terrorism" are low on people's priority list, and certainly lower than "economic issues".

This article is an eye-opener.

How I wish the media would show the pic that I saw on FR of Clinton, Hillary, and Chelsea on a carrier that had rolled out the red carpet for them! But they never will, the skunks! Talk about a photo op! (with a wide lens at that! )

"I say it all evens out."

In this case it doesn't.

53% of women to 40% of men isn't even.

Especially when you are voting for a lying, corrupt POS.

"Democratic political consulant Rachel Gorlin agrees, 'We ...are turning people off.'

It must be that 'Eau de Fromage' the Dem Party's been wearing. Better yet, Dems might want to wash their arses before getting them kicked this time.

I voted for Buchanan in the primaries because I was so pissed at 41 for raising taxes and trusting the RATS to cut spending.

On election day, I punched the chad for 41, but only because I was voting against Bubba The SleazeBag.

His skulls and bones attitude probably makes it worse, Bush may be a skull, but he was no elitist.

Is there any video available of that infamous medals-tossing ceremony??

I think the RNC should use it in their ads for Bush......

Every time one of the 9 dwarves bring up the aircraft carrier landing, they remind Americans of what an awesome, inspiring, victorious event it was, and most likely bring in more votes for President Bush's reelection!

Not to mention the fact that they always combine the story with a picture of the President in that flight suit! He looks very comfortable in it, as though he were born to wear it, and besides that he looks just plain FINE in it!

So, you are not bullheaded to the point of voting to cut your country's throat.

That's what I care about. Airhead women who vote for their own short term interests over the survival of the country and bullheaded men who vote for revenge and not for the survival of their country.

Still, the world economy is stagnating under socialism, and I am concerned the U.S. economy will be sucked into the vortex. And that worries me, but no where near as much as what a nuke in D.C. would do to this country.

the fact that these Soccer Moms are so fickle, so self centered, so shallow, so short sighted, and so reactionary in their voting habits leads me to understand why the Founding Fathers refused to let women vote.

Women have a biological imperative that drives their need for security (protect the cubs at all costs). Sharp pols realized that, and pander to that imperative. Originally only property owners could vote. We should return to that requirement.

Hey I have a framed pic of Buchanan around here somewhere. Btw, I'm a female :)

I find the thought that American politics turns on what uninformed emotional air-brains think from a polticial perspective, depressing. Maybe it's just me.

It's not. However, it's been a fact of political life in America for many years now, so we may as well enjoy the fact that for once, these ditzes see things our way.

Are those 1996 or 1992 figures on Clinton? Actually I'd like to see both years with the breakdowns for male-female and the absolute votes, including the Perot and other party votes.

If a man voted for Perot or wrote in his dog then I can't say they voted smarter.
