One Super Delegate Down..[Ranking Dem on House Appropriations Endorses 'Crazy Al' SHARPTON]
National Journal and the Hotline ^ | May 23, 2003 | Chuck Todd

Rep. Jose Serrano (D-NY) appeared on Crossfire last night to discuss his endorsement of the 'Reverand' Al Sharpton.

CNN's Paul Begala: 'Congressman Serrano, are you presently under a doctors care or on medication for any reason? I mean are you nuts , sir? As a Democrat who loves his party, are you our of your mind?

Serrano: 'I could be, due to the fact I am appearing on this show talking to you, but other than than I am doing fine.'

Tucker Carlson: Have you taken a lot of grief from your fellow Democrats for your heroic actions? (endorsing 'Crazy Al')

Serrano: Absolutely not. I am very serious and people will nod in quiet agreement that my party has become a mini Republican Party and that Al Sharpton put forward issues of racial profiling, of help for minorities, for poor working whites who somehow never got attention from the major parties.

And if they are not involved in the process, those issues will never be discussed. So Number 1, I am hopeful that he will get the 2004 Democrat nomination. But in the process, he will make my party behave like the party that I joined when I was 15, 16 years old and that is the Democratic Party.

So he joined the party when he was 15.

Wanna bet he had been voting democratic for 15 years before that too. Maybe twice a year.

This on the day Rev. Al revisited the Tawana Brawley matter by running a fund raiser to reinstate disgraced lawyer Alton Maddox to the NY Bar. Maddox himself restated his claim that ass't DA Steve Pagones raped Brawley.

If someone pitched this series of events to a publisher he'd be pitched out onto the pavement.

But as a registered NY Democrat I fully plan to pull the lever for the Rev Al come primary day. I cannot wait!!!!

Well, rigor mortis doesn't stop Dims from voting, why should a minor matter such as age? ;0)

I mean are you nuts , sir? As a Democrat who loves his party, are you out of your mind?

Translation: A Democrat endorsing an African-American for President? Are you nuts?
