Anyways, you know the old saying: Drive for Show, Putt for Dough.

Beat me to that one...

I was wondering if somehow they hadn't swapped shirts for this picture

I wonder what would be worse, losing to Annika, or having her dress more manly than you

The "greens in regulation" strategy is an old, old one that can make you a lot of money on the tour, but not win you a lot of tournaments. Calvin Peete was the master at that strategy. Not too many people remember him....

If using that excuse helps protect your scrotum at night, keep using it.... Most PGA players don't make the cut regularly... She's showing she has what it takes to run with the big dogs, but I am sure you can spout off a hundred more excuses if she does very well why she can't.

Like who dressed her today? She really needs a fashion consultant.

One of the announcers earlier said that she's already made one rookie mistake - wearing white on a muddy day.

10th (par 4, 404 yds): On the fairway twice, birdie putt is 18" short, makes par.
11th (par 5, 609 yds): On the fairway all three shots, birdie putt is 10" short, makes par.
12th (par 4, 443 yds): On the fairway, second shot on the rim of the green, makes par.
13th (par 3, 178 yds): 3 inches off of the carpet, birdie putt is GOOD!
14th (par 4, 457 yds): On the green in two, long birdie putt is 6" short, makes par.

15th (par 4, 430 yds): Drive misses barely right of the fairway, approach shot still hits the green, 20ft putt is just left of the hole. 5" par putt is good

16th (par 3, 188 yds):
17th (par 4, 383 yds):
18th (par 4, 427 yds):

Well, this has been fun.

I just got a call from the hospital. Third grandchild is on the way. Got to go.

It's gonna be a boy, so they can't name him Annika. Maybe they will go with Aniken (as in Skywalker). I guess we could call him Darth for short.

I remember Cal Pete. He had a deformed left arm that prevented him from keeping the arm straight on the back swing, and he still won quite a few tournaments. So much for proper form.

I really feel bad for the two other players she is paired with - they must be under enormous pressure.

Aaron Barber (one of 'the others') is an old high school friend. I'm having a heck of a time following him today though with TourCast being bogged down.

We're from a small, rural town. He married his high school sweet heart. They just had their first baby last week. He's got quite an enthusiastic following around here.

You are exactly correct! The mental aspect of golf is so important.

That's why it is entirely possible that someone like Annika CAN compete! She obviously has a champion's heart and that is worth a lot more than the greater upper body strength.

... but it still may not be enough. We'll just have to wait and see!

It seems to me there's no reason why she couldn't be competitive; if she's 25 yards short off the tee, then she just uses a bit more club on the 2nd shot. As long as you keep your drives in the fairway, the key to low scores is the short game and putting.

She has stated from the onset that this course suited her game. No deep secret there.
